My complaint with the Vatican statement is that he made it sound like the whole gay world was responsible for their problem. That simply is not true.

The priests have far more opportunities to molest boys than they do with girls. In some cases, it is a matter of opportunity, not sexuality. They molest whoever is at their disposal.

As far as the gays I've known from the priesthood, they were looking for adult men, not boys. The stories I got from them were very consistent.

Not all pedophiles or hebephiles are homosexuals. But there are many more homesexual pedopholes/hebephiles than heterosexual pedo/hebephiles percentage wise. I've seen it listed as anywhere from a 3 to 1 ratio to a 10-1 ratio. To say that there are more heterosexual pedophiles than homosexuals pedophiles needs clarification, given that only about 2 to 5 percent of the poulation are homosexual.

So, the Vatican should clarify their claim. They should not blame the pedophile situation as simply being a homosexual problem.

And it seems somehow worse when they do it as a priest for a few reasons. They're supposed to be trustworthy and because it's disappointing the stigma that the scandals have brought to the great majority of priests who are outstanding members of their community just trying to help people. An overall shitty situation.

this whole thing has just reinforced in my mind at least that the Church is a joke...I don't know what religious affiliation if any I will take up later, but count me out as a Catholic. I'll still go to the occasional Easter/Xmas mass, but that's for respect for my family and my girlfriend's family. The Vatican can SMD, and I bet they would if I were younger.
