I'd say he's exactly what they need. Only takes up a scholly for a year. He gives Carolina a third post and a back-up plan if someone sneezes on Henson or Zeller and they blow away. Hopefully he gets around 10-15 minutes. However, it won't be a good thing if Roy goes to an exclusive 3-man rotation of Zeller, Henson and Knox in the post. I'd like to see a smaller line-up for at least 15 minutes or so per game.

This is why I think Knox may do more harm than good.
He will be taking minutes away from a younger player they will need to be a factor down the stretch.

Why play a non-program guy who is exclusively a rebounder and struggles finishing when you have a frosh that could develop into a great rebounder and finisher?

I would say Roy plans on using a smaller lineup quite often. I highly doubt that Knox will play big minutes, but having him on the roster is necessary. As RiverRat13 said, what if Henson or Zeller gets injured? It's better to have him than to not have him. It's not like he's wasting a scholarship on the guy since he's a one year player.

I haven't heard anything official on it. Read a thread on Carolina Blue, wouldn't shock me, but I would be surprised if he decided to enroll early.

Interesting development. I know this had been discussed before and McAdoo had decided that he wanted to enjoy his senior year of high school. I hope that if he does go to Carolina early, it's what he REALLY wants to do, rather than him just feeling like he needs to help out the program in a tough time. That said, I'd be thrilled to see him in Chapel Hill next season. Also, because he won't turn 19 until the 2012 calendar year, he won't be able to leave for the 2011 NBA Draft. That means he would definitely be at Carolina for two seasons if he does decide to enroll early.

A class of Barnes, Bullock, Marshall, and McAdoo would be off the charts. The addition of McAdoo and Knox should solve the glaring deficiency in the post. Let's hope that the Heels are officially back!

In the last couple days I have heard a couple different things regarding McAdoo. First, he had supposedly enrolled in summer classes so he could graduate from high school early and head to Chapel Hill. However, now I'm hearing that he might be staying in high school. It seems like he's pretty conflicted about what he wants to do, and if that's the case, he shouldn't come to Carolina early. He needs to enjoy his senior season, play with USA basketball, and come to Carolina in 2011 as previously planned if he's not fully committed to arriving early. Definitely a tough position for the kid to be in, and you're only a senior in high school one time. I still hope he comes early, but only if he thinks it's what's best for him.

Hard decision-- whichever one he makes will be the right one (at least I hope so). There are pro's and con's of both choices. Two years in the Carolina system would really help with the NBA. But sometimes, a kid just needs to be a kid. He'd be fine in basketball, it's the life around basketball at the college level I'd be a bit worried about.

Imagine if Calipari was to convince a HS kid to come to UK a year early because he was desperate for inside players?

I mean the guy got railroaded for running off a suspected rapist (Matt Pilgrim) and a guy with multiple team suspensions (A.J. Stewart) before his first year at UK.

I haven't seen a single mention of this nationally yet...

I'm no insider, but from what I have read, McAdoo came to Roy with this idea after the Wears left. I know people will claim that's not true and Roy pressured him into it, but there have been several interviews with McAdoo and his family where they have confirmed this.

I guess it's not official, but I'm fairly certain that McAdoo will be in Chapel Hill next season. Barnes, Bullock, Marshall, and McAdoo (and Knox as a transfer) - Just what the the Heels needed to fill all their areas of need.

Now, this is just what has been reported, but it appears to me like it was a case of Jones being pressured (by his parents, handlers, friends) to commit to Washington, and it was NOT where his heart really was.

Again, I'll try to find some proof this is the case, but if so, try again. As I said, imagine the backlash if Calipari convinced Michael Gilchrist to enroll at UK early because he was looking at a team that lacked depth. Now, this is part of the process, I don't blame Roy Williams one bit, and from what it sounds like, McAdoo made the entire decision on his own. However, it has gotten ZERO press, and for some reason, I'd be willing to wager if this were UK/Calipari it would at least get a mention, or a backslap of some sort on national radio or television.

Do you think it might have to do with Cal's track record as far as violations? I mean to be honest his record isn't exactly squeeky clean, with Roy having a pretty good record as far as no violations maybe thats why i didn't make any news. That or maybe it's not final yet so they are waiting.

Side note: I don't recall Dawkins getting that much press last year, some but not alot.

It is what it is. This is just another situation, in-which is completely within NCAA rules, nothing shady going on and is completely allowed by all parties involved. I guess it's just me venting my frustration that somehow it would be spun into a negative had it happened at UK, that's all.

Dawkins didn't get a lot of press last year, at least not until the season started. I figure it would be the same with McAdoo. I guess I just pictured the headline..."Calipari, coming off 5 defections to the NBA, convincing high-school Juniors to skip a year of high school to play for him early." Now, we can debate forever whether this is actually a good idea to do, and honestly none of us are qualified to determine that since it's a personal decision. I just have a feeling if it was Cal, there would be some sort of negativity implied. That's all. I wasn't attacking UNC, Roy or you.

Looks like McAdoo may not be coming early after all. I've heard that an official decision will be made in July after he finishes up with USA Basketball, but it looks like he's not gonna pass on his senior year. With all the flip-flopping, it's probably better just to go ahead and stay in high school, rather than making the early jump. It would have been nice to have him this season, but you can't blame him for wanting to experience his senior year. The real bad news is that he may only be in Chapel Hill for one season now. The Heels will obviously still be pretty short-handed in the post this year too.

Who is the kid from UNC-Wilmington that ESPN won't let me read about(insiders only)? Said he has a year left of instant eligibility(the graduation rule) and might be looking at UNC.

Nevermind, I found it.
Brian Mull of the Wilmington Star-News is reporting that senior big man John Fields, who holds shot-blocking records at UNC-Wilmington, has graduated and is eligible to transfer under the same rule. All he has to do is choose to pursue a graduate degree in a department not offered at Wilmington.

"The kid's had four coaches in four years and some things that were promised to us at UNC-Wilmington didn't pan out," Fields' father told Mull. "I'm not going to point any fingers or name any names."
