What IF Brad stays at Butler one more year, obviously has another great season AND Indiana sucks ass again?

Would Indiana offer him a job? honestly, if I was Indiana, I'd probably offer him the job NOW. I don't know, I've never been a big fan of Tom Crean

Stevens is a fine coach. But the guy still has ONLY been a head coach for 3 total years. He isn't yet ready to deal with the pressures that come long with a job like IU.
Lets be honest, the guy walked into a pretty good situation at Butler. His team plays in a conference where they are and have been very successful. And his team got hot this year. The guy seems to be a solid coach by all accounts. But it takes MORE then 3yrs, and a one year run to be mentioned as a "top" coach. Lets not yet go overboard. Still to early to tell just how good he is.

I think he'll stay put for another year or two. Didn't they say throughout the tourney that he has two young sons? not sure he'd be willing to uproot them and move across the country to a place like Oregon

I say leave while you are the hot coaching commodity, Clemson/ACC would be very interesting.
I agree with this, unless he already has his dream job. Opportunity does not always knock twice.

25 wins in a row isn't "hot". That's plain great. Any team can become "hot". Not every team can win 25 in a row.

If I were him, I'd wait around for a better job than Clemson, Oregon, etc...

You have to think people like Coach K, Roy W are near the end of their careers. Show that you can establish Butler as a powerhouse, then go.

Honestly what job does anyone think will open up that is any bigger than Oregon that would even consider him?

The big time jobs in college basketball (UK, UNC, Duke, Syracuse, UCLA, Indiana etc...) don't just open up every day, and like CBF said, they don't go after some guy who has no experience at a high level.

Oregon is a job that I would compare to Ohio State. Both have a lot of money and are big universities in big conferences. Matta had to take a job at Xavier before joining the big boys. If Oergon offers Stevens, he's almost skipping one of the stepping stone jobs.

True. What if Butler has a mediocre season next year? These high paying jobs that are currently available will not likely be available for him next season. You have to strike iron while its hot.

Someone mentioned uprooting your family being problematic for the family. Well, multiplying your income tenfold does wonders for all of that. Going from a $300K a year job to a $3M job will change his family's fortune's forever. Butler just does not have the resources to pay that kind of money.

before skip prosser, xavier was butler. I think Stevens has elevated butler to the same level as xavier (i.e. a stepping stone job). it will be interesting to see if it continues if/when he leaves. that's whats amazing about xavier, after prosser they had 3 great coaches right in line.

I'm not too familiar with Xavier prior to Prosser, but the thing that I find interesting is that Xavier is a top 20 revenue generating basketball program. You wouldn't think that of a school out of the A10 and a program that is a stepping stone. Not sure if Butler is in that same boat financially?

Actually, Xavier started to make a run with Bob Staak and Pete Gillen prior to Prosser. Prosser benefitted greatly from the program that Gillen already had in place. Up until 1995, Xavier was in the Horizon League with teams like Detroit-Mercy, Butler, St. Louis, etc.

No we weren't. We were in the MCC. Same teams practically, so you're technically right, just missed the name.

I think that the real situation should be when does Butler try to get the hell out of the HL and join a real conference. If I'm Brad Stevens I leave the second I get an offer. Now if Butler somehow pulled something out of their ass and joined a higher tier 'mid-major' conference it would be different. You can't make a name for yourself playing some of these crap HL schools.

As far as budgets go and why X is successful coming out of the Atlantic 10, its because we spend money. I thought I heard Butler has an AD budget of 1.5 million? Not 100% certain on that number though. Xavier's while I'm not sure of either, TOWERS above whatever it is Butler spends.

X12, you are correct it was not called the Horizon League when Xavier was in the league. I figured most on this board would have no idea abut the MCC.

I agree with you about Butler moving on from the Horizon League. Although, I don't know how attractive they are for bigger leagues. They have a small alumni base, less than 5,000 current students, and is in a small state dominated by IU, ND, Purdue and Big Ten Basketball interest. The only possible move I could see would be the A-10 or possibly the Missouri Valley Conference, who already has two Indiana schools already in Evansville and Indiana State.

Fat man at St. Louis has been complaining for the past 2 years about how he wants them in the MVC. If that happened, the A10 would most likely welcome Butler with open arms. It would be a great day for the conference.
