Laynce Nix starting. What a shame. The season hasn't even begun and Dusty is already killing the vibe. Drew Stubbs can't even crack the starting lineup I see...

Reds lose 5-1.
Please prove me wrong. But I don't see us beating the Cards. A
Are we on ESPN?

Laynce Nix.....
Dusty trusts the veterans over the young guys. Dusty must've been screwded over late in his career in his opinion.
I just hope at some point this year Dusty throws out the best lineup and the best order...but he's Dusty.

I am still holding out hope that the Laynce Nix business isn't true. Does anybody know if Walt Jocketty checks out Ohio Chatter? haha

It's true. I saw the lineups posted last night.
http://cincinnati.com/blogs/reds/2010/04/04/opening-day-lineups/
Cardinals
55 Skip Schumaker 2B
13 Brendan Ryan SS
5 Albert Pujols 1B
7 Matt Holliday LF
28 Colby Rasmus CF
47 Ryan Ludwick RF
4 Yadier Molina C
23 David Freese 3B
29 Chris Carpenter RHP
Reds
21 Chris Dickerson CF
2 Orlando Cabrera SS
19 Joey Votto 1B
4 Brandon Phillips 2B
27 Scott Rolen 3B
32 Jay Bruce RF
17 Laynce Nix LF
55 Ramon Hernandez C
39 Aaron Harang RHP
I still have hope, but as someone who is frequently driven nuts by some of Dusty's logic, this certainly isn't the way to start the year off. Supposedly they aren't sold on Gomes against righties and aren't prepared to give Stubbs the full-time job at all.

Id like to see Stubbs too, but its not a terrible move. Dickerson has success against Carp so he has to play. Stubbs K's way too much and Nix is a lefty with OD experience so those 2 reasons are good enough to give nix a shot today.
I think it will take a couple long balls today to win and even though Stubbs has shown some pop late this spring nix is more likely to hit one.
If Harang can limit total runs given up on homers to 2 or less I think the Redlegs win. I don't see that happening but I'm still really pumped about this game and season.

Reds always seem to start hot and then go cold for the next 100 games and then become hot again.

Would love nothing more than to see a CG SHO for Carpenter with 2 hits, 11 Ks and no BBs.

Nix sure does rip right-handers! He should be in there for sure. Career numbers against righties:
.245 AVG
.285 OBP
.730 OPS
Then again, his .697 career OPS total suggests he really should NEVER be in the starting lineup.
Bottom line, if Drew Stubbs is anything, he's one of the starting outfielders. Preferably in CF. Dusty's reign of terror has already started and the first pitch of the season hasn't even been thrown.

Would it be unprecedented to fire the manager 45 minutes before the opening pitch?? Starting Nix makes zero sense.
