Are the Reds done making any offseason moves going into Spring Training? I saw a while back where Dammon was a possibility for them to get and play Left. Dammon wants a two-year deal where ever he ends up...just wondering what people think

Who is "Dammon"? And yes, as far as any significant moves other than possibly resigning Gomes, they are probably done.

Yeah I figure they are done. Which, I am fine with, they spent their money pretty wisely this offseason (Orlando Cabrera and Aroldis Chapman). If they can get Gomes for a good price then they will probably bring him back, if not, its not like they don't have a ton of young guys ready to get a bigger role. (I would like to see Gomes, he was a stud last year against lefties)

Johnny Dammon is who I was talking about. I saw a little while back where there was something about it would be a good fit for him to be in Cincinnati but I couldn't read it because I am not a subscriber...I think they are pretty much done. Just have to fill the left field spot and I think they will have a pretty solid team.

Gomes would be the only other move they make at this point.

For the love of God, it's 'Damon.' The guy has been in baseball for like 15 years and has played on a couple World Series teams, can you please spell his name right?

No way they sign Damon at this point. They already spent more than what they had budgeted, so any more moves will be for minor league contracts. Gomes is the most likely candidate for this.

For the love of God, it's 'lenient.' The word has been in the english dictionary for like a thousand years, can you please spell it right?

Haha smart ass. I'm on my Blackberry though. Surprised I missed that when it tried to correct me as I typed that.

BTW, has the English dictionary really been around for 'thousands of years'?

Jonny Damien has an offer on the table wtih the Tigers and i imagine that is where he ll sign.

No way the reds were gonna do it.

Imagine they are basically done other than some minor pickups possibly but nothing significant.

Or as I called him during his year with Pittsburgh, Doug Mienky. Far easier to spell than he actual game.

Brian Cashman was quoted as saying in an interview a couple days ago that Damin turned down 14 million for 2 years from the Yanks.

The Reds have come to terms with Jonny Gomes according to John Fay of the Enquirer. For a seemingly small signing, I think this will have a huge positive impact on the Reds. Gomes gives them a solid veteran right-handed corner outfielder that they were lacking.

Good to hear! Now hopefully he gets more opportunities than last year

It can't hurt that Tavares is gone and Gomes had the best season of all the players that were in left last year. I could see him getting around 400 PA this year if he produces like last year. Even if he is just there to push the young guys, this is a solid signing.

I agree with you, I'm hoping Dusty gets him some more at bats against righties, last year he seemed hesitant

Actually, Gomes had almost 100 more PA against righties than lefties last year, which is odd considering that Baker is such a conventional wisdom type. Even though Gomes SLG is about the same against both, he clearly hits the long ball better against righties - 15 of his 20 HRs came off of righties. However, his BA, OBP and subsequently OPS are higher against lefties. I'm not sure what this tells us other than the guy is clearly the best option the Reds have in left at this point.

I like this signing. It is a major league deal, and they had put Volquez on the 60day DL to make room. Anyone know the salary for this season, and the the salary for 2011 that the Reds have the option of exercising, and the buyout amount if they don't which I presume that there is.
