Miami will be able to. The only two players on the book for next year for sure are Beasley and Cook for 7.1M. Jones and Chalmers have team options, with Jones guaranteed approximately 1.9M. At the least, Miami will have 9M with 2 players. They could have 3 players at 10M if they keep Chalmers. Miami could go after 2 max players, and neither be Wade. They'd have approx 10M, plus some exceptions, to go after 9 more players to make a 12 man roster. But they won't have to worry about that since they'll be able to hopefully get a max player because of bird rights with Wade.

Wade will still count towards Miami's salary cap as a 'cap hold' until they release his rights.. and if they do that, they no longer can offer him more than any other team..

It's cool. I get what you're saying too, I think. In a way you are implying that Miami can't go after 3 max players. Sign two, then sign Wade using bird rights.

Yeah, at first that's what I thought you meant, but I didn't read it thoroughly enough.

Although rumors are that that is Riley end game. He wants to get the 3 max players to take like 2-3M pay decrease. I don't buy into those rumors. He knows that's damn near impossible to do and that he'd have a team with no depth. Pat is smarter than the journalist down there smoking that Haitin green.

There is no green coming out of Haiti anymore, they don't have to sell it with all the money we're giving them now and they definitely need to smoke it lol.

Anyways as far as moves go, who made the best move? What's everyone's opinion?

I personally don't think that the Cavs had the best/biggest deadline. I think the Mavs did.

I like what Houston did. Giving up TMac and getting Martin and a young PF.

The Mavs are pretenders imo.. I don't see the move making them that much better..

I think it was the Cavs.

You basically gave up nothing, but gained Antawn. A stretch 4 who can explode in any given game.... You also teamed him up with Mo, LeBron, and Shaq..

I also agree with jpake.. Houston made a great move.

How can you possibly think the Mavs didn't get that much better? LOL

No one got better from the deadline than the Mavs, some people put themselves in better position cap wise, some teams got a little better but no one did better than the Mavs. Jamison is huge for the Cavs, but they didn't have very much room to improve. Dallas did.

I don't think you can call them a pretender either--if you've got Dirk, you've got a chance. They played well earlier in the year and they really filled some spots with trades.

Caron Butler isn't a player that puts the Mavs over the top. I'm not sure how you can think it is. Brendan Haywood is a good center, but again, nothing that puts you over the top..

Dirk is vastly overrated. He's a GREAT scorer, but doesn't do much else. He's also easily rattled and isn't a guy I think of when I think of somebody who can carry his team through the playoffs. I just don't see it being that big of a difference. Butlers PER is pretty average, actually, not too much higher than Josh Howards.

Did they get better? Sure. But nothing that really makes me say "WOW"..

As far as the Cavs, they certainly had areas to improve. Shooting guard and power forward.

A stretch 4 is wonderful to have in our system with LeBron, Mo, and Shaq. We could have used another 2 guard too, because AP isn't consistent and nobody knows about Delonte West yet.

The Mavs, at their BEST are the 3 seed in the West. They won't make it past the second round.

I think this was a great move by Boston. I never liked Eddie House and we all saw what Robinson can do the other day in Cleveland.

The Celtics coach and players(Rondo) disagree with you.

It isn't about that. You're missing the point. The Mavs improved more than any team based on the trades they made--I never said it made them a contender. But the pieces they added will improve their team more than Jamison will improve the Cavs. The Mavs ceiling for improvement was much higher than the Cavs obviously. I don't think Caron Butler puts them "over the top" but he certainly makes them a lot better and gives them another scoring threat. And Haywood is great addition for them.

I think the Mavericks did much better than the Cavs. Getting rid of Gooden is worth 5 wins a season all by itself.

On the page that shows the threads click on the number of posts in a thread and it pops up a list of posters.
