I don't think the job can be announced though.
I didn't think you could even get permission to interview these folks when their teams are still playing. NFL rules are too damn confusing.

br1986fb is saying that the Holmgren/Mangini meetings are over and it sounds like Mangini will be canned. I am guessing that he is getting his info off of the OBR.

Mangini stays
Dabol is fired
Our new GM will be Tom Heckert, current GM of the Eagles..

Hopefully these questions are answered today.
This is the man I wanted, although it sounds Mangini would be gone if this is the case.

Any idea of who is showing this conference outside of the local Cleveland stations?

ESPNEWS? FSN Ohio? STO?

EDIT: STO will have it

@Adam_Schefter

After a brief meeting today, Eric Mangini and Mike Holmgren will meet again tonight, then again tomorrow. No decisions yet.

Drennan was beating off during the press conference I think. He seems a little excited... haha

If Reid brings in Heckert, the Cleveland Browns head coach in 2010 is going to be:

Marty Mornhinweg.

I have seen this reported in a few places and it makes me ill. Only in Cleveland can a 5-27 stint as a previous head coach can it land you another head coaching job.

Wasn't Chris Palmer available on the scrap heap somewhere.:@

John Fox to Cleveland. Bill Cowher to Carolina.
According to a reporter from the Cleveland paper, this could be in the works.

I heard the Fox rumor all over the radio this evening. I would be thrilled with that, as he has been to a super bowl and has never had a record worse than 7-9 in 8 seasons. Now i don't love how he has been up one year down the next, but at least the valley's are significantly higher than what we are dealing with now.

Mortensen says don't pay much attention to the Fox to Cleveland speculation. This was on his twitter page.

Leslie Frazier is a candidate before John Fox is, IMO. As is Mornhinweg, and Gruden.

I think Gruden will be the first choice, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Frazier as Cleveland's HC next season.

We'll find out, though.

If Cleveland ends up with yet another unproven assistant as its head coach, I'll be pretty damn pissed. The main reason I endorsed the Mangini hire was that he had NFL experience -- and I believe that is needed.

So even though I've heard lots of good things about Frazier, I'll give it a pass, thank you.

How many proven coaches are out there? Not many...So if Mangini is fired, it most likely will be a coordinator...

mangini isn't a bad head coach,( if all you do is let him coah and leave all the other stuff out of his control). but having said that, after the holmgren press conference (which was great by the way) i'd be surprised if mangini is back. Too many differences in philosophy with holmgren. plus don't think mangini wants to be a 2nd or 3rd banana--he wants to be a top banana. with what I've seen/heard so far, i'll take my chances with holmgren rather than mangini. If holmgren wants to keep him (which i doubt) i'm fine with that. If not, that's even better

Holmgren stressed that he will have no ego's in the house under his watch (except his of course) so since Mangeneous is an egomaniac I think he is cleaning out his office today. JMO

^^^^THIS

He stessed that ALL members of the staff will need to be on the SAME wavelenghts to make it work. Its obvious Mangini is on his own, beings he wants to be like his Daddy Belicheck.

"He rebuilt teams as a HC. He struggled in his only front office experience with the Seahawks. The Seahawks didn't get good until he gave up the front office part of his job. I hope he does a great job, but I feel he is unproven in the front office. "

Thankyou for being a Browns fan who actually doesn't think every move they make is gonna right the ship. Holmgren has been unsuccessful in the front office in his only experience. Yes I agree Holmgren is a great COACH. If you had hired him as a coach I would be right there with all the Browns fans saying this is a great move. He had very little to do with actaully building the Packers franchise besides coaching the players and designing the game plan (two things he will not do in Cleveland) and in Seattle he was actually almost fired as a coach and GM because they had been so unsuccessful but, they decided to just take away his GM duties and leave him to coaching and things improved and his COACHING took them to a superbowl.

Bill Parcells has done a great job in Miami but, he also had alot to do with player selection when he was a coach much more so the Holmgrem ( except for his negitive experince in Seattle). Homgrem is not Parcells. The Browns need to go out and get a GM who has had success in the past.
