I don't see Holmgren fireing Mangini for Fox, I do see him letting him go if some big time coach is interested in the job

If Mangini is fired, Holmgren better have a plan of who is replacing him. It would be a terrible decision to fire Mangini and then have a long search for a HC, and eventually land an unproven coordinater.

I'm gonna say he already has a plan of attack and it involves Brian Billick. Just my opinion.

Why are people going to be upset if Mangini is fired? He went 5-11. He beat 4 really bad teams. I know he beat the Steelers, which was fantastic. It was great to let the Stiller fans know that we basically ended their playoff hopes walking out of CBS that night. But, the Browns were basically a circus all year and there were whispers of Mangini getting fired even before we hired a new leader in the front office. IF Holmgren feels he and Mangini's philosophies mesh and they can build a winner togehter, then I hope he keeps him. But if their ideas clash, why keep him around another year? We have 11 picks this upcoming draft. We better get a coach, GM and football czar that are all on the same page, because this is a pretty damn important offseason.

4 really bad teams? I didn't know JAX was so bad that they still had a playoff chance going into week 17.

My only ? is didnt Holmgren struggle as a GM in Seattle. I know it is very hard to juggle coaching and GM duties because of the win now vs keep pieces in place for the future struggle but, what makes Holmgren qualfied for this position. He has never been a guy like Parcells who spots talent and knows where to play them to get the most out of them. Personally, if I was a Browns fan I would be worried with Holmgren in charge.

Yeah its always worrisome to have a guy who has taken two franchises to the SB and winning one of them.

He had major influence in the turnaround of the Packers and Seahawks, his MO is to rebuild teams. He has done that successfully at two stops.

The Jags were the worst team in playoff contention. They were 1-5 in their last 6 games. They wanted no part of playing in Cleveland in January.
Obviously winning those last 4 games were better than losing them, but I don't think you should bring Mangini back just based on this winning streak. If you just look at the final product:
5-11 (1 win over a team with a winning record)
1-5 in division
32nd in total offense
31st in total defense
Jerome Harrison buried on the bench for majority of the season
2 of 3 second round picks not active for majority of the season
Circus of not naming a starting QB until start of the opener

With all that said, if Holmgren feels that he will work well with Mangini going forward, then keep him here. But please, we don't need to give the guy another chance just because our players cared and won 4 basically meaningless games at the end of the year. If the Browns were 5-11 and just won 1 out of every 3 games instead of winning 4 in a row and had the same stats listed above, would everyone still want to give Mangini another shot next year?

They is a proven winner, end of story.

I have no doubts he'll be able to translate success on the field into the FO of the Browns.

No matter who it is against, its very hard for teams to have a 4 game winning streak in the NFL outside of the elite teams of that season.

Like I said, I won't be upset with firing Mangini if we bring in a coach that has better credentials than him. I do not want to see some OC/DC brought in (unless its Ryan) as the HC.

I agree it's not easy to win 4 games in a row in the NFL, I am just stating that should not be the reason he comes back as the head coach next season. I am not against Mangini coming back, I just hope it is because Holmgren feels EM is the best option going forward that MH can work with. MH isn't going to change his football philosophies to fit EM, so if they don't align philosophically, get him out of here and start over, rather than wasting another year or two.

Why the love fest with Rob Ryan from all Browns fans? The guy led the 31st ranked defense in the NFL. I know the talent wasn't there, but the defense was awful. We put up some decent numbers the last few weeks, but we also were playing in inclement weather that was not favorable for offenses.

If there is a qualified OC/DC that Holmgren wants to be our head coach, then I would expect him to hire that guy. Unless Holmgren can sweet talk Gruden out of the booth(which doesn't seem likely), I can't imagine any of these other available retired/fired coaches coming to Cleveland.

Rob Ryan actually has a plan for the defense. I love his style of attacking offenses but Cleveland has some shitty defensive players right now.

He is a proven winner as a head coach. Being a proven winner in one role doesn't always mean you can be a winner in another role. Look at all the proven winners as assistant coaches who struggled as head coaches. It is a completely different job. I hope he can make the transition.

Dabol is fired
Our new GM will be Tom Heckert, current GM of the Eagles..

Hopefully these questions are answered today.

If that happens I could not complain. However, I don't think anything involving Heckert can be announced until the Eagles season is over. So if this is indeed the case, we will not hear this from the walrus today at 4.

I have to think a decision is going to be announced regarding the coaching position today. What purpose would today's presser serve if this is not addressed? The Browns really can't begin moving forward until the HC and GM are decided.

The Eagles gave Heckert permission to interview with Cleveland, he's currently in Cleveland now, according to ESPN...


I don't think the job can be announced though.
