OK, I'm done, but it cannot under the NFHS basketball rules (governing Ohio high school basketball) be goaltending. Under goaltending, two points would be awarded. With basket interference, points are not awarded but a technical would be assessed.

I honestly don't have a clue as to when this would have happened. I don't recall anything close to anyone from eastwood slapping the backboard. Except for Rolf on his repeated bunnies

I remember the play RoyalK is asking about and I too thought you could not interfeer with any part of the basket. Rolf didnt get the lock but he hit the backboard hard and it clearly affected the shot. Oh well.

ah, you likely had a better view from under the basket than I did. I was blocked by some south of 6er who was jumping out of his seat screaming at the officials

There was a lot of complaining last night. Justifyable from both sides.

since when can an official stop play to assess a technical foul, stopping a layup for the opposing team, only to then change the call to a warning? catching your own pass while moving both feet and not called a travel, fastest 5 second call in the world, phantom foul on a three at the end of a quarter. not sure it was equally bad both ways. It appeared to me that some on the job training was taking place for the young official who was a sub, and the official who kept talking with him the whole game was completely horrible. Worst officiated game of the year from the opening tip on. lol

Exactly! I didn't even mention the 5 second call or the bogus foul on the 3 point shot, or the so-called travelling on the break away layup by Shorty. Definately not officiated evenly.

what about the 10 second call that was actually 8 by the clock?? It was 8 for sure, I had sent a text to someone with a score/time update as I think it was coming out of a timeout. Flopping against Rolf called a charge. Two NBA-like continuations. The elmwood coach at one point was asking for continuation. There were bad calls both ways like I said. Its high school basketball. If you can do such a good job, get certified and grab a whistle. I was lucky enough to sit in the elmwood section and hear complaining about phantom calls. Man crush by the refs on Rolf, calling the one ref by name and talking about his brother, and my favorite was the constant wanting of the 5 second closely guarded rule. I don't think anyone wearing royal blue understands that rule.

I wear royal blue and know exactly what a 5 second violation is. Generalization is not a good thing......

All you want in a game is for the officials to let the players determine the outcome of the game. In this game they failed. They determined it much more than the players did and that's the bottom line.

I'm not saying 5 second on the out of bounds. Closely guarded 5 second rule. I'm sorry to lump you in if you do know but I'm sure you heard other fans screaming for one when it wasn't warranted.

The players did determine the outcome of the game. How many FT's did elmwood miss? You can't blame the loss solely on the officiating.

Also, here is a good look at Rolf's 5th foul. Is that foul on Rolf or on Juergens swinging at the ball?? Elmwood had every opportunity to win the game in OT without the league player of the year on the court for Eastwood but didn't get it done.

Foul could have been on either. Rolf hacked his arm and Juergens' hand was in there as well. And Yes, The Royals missed alot of FTs. (11-23) But it still doesn't justify the officiating. You can look at it both ways. If they make their Fts the game doesn't even see OT and they win. Or if the officials were of HS varsity level, they win.

Obviously you and I are not in agreement on some of these calls. I'm not gonna change your mind and your not gonna change mine.

I do agree with a few of the calls you pointed out. I have said that the refs were bad both ways multiple times. But to say that Eastwood won the game simply because the officials gave it to them isn't fair. It's too bad that fans are creating excuses like that for the loss. It isn't a good example to set.

I sat there because I waited for a friend who was coming up from Findlay and we didn't get there until 4th quarter of JV game. A group of us usually sits across from the Eastwood bench on the visitors side anyways, I just had to sit more towards midcourt and up a few more rows.

Eastwood and Otsego. It looks like the second game between them will be for a title, barring any unforeseen upsets along the way. I realize that Genoa is still out there and is always dangerous, but they have been coming up a little short at key times this season. On paper it's Eastwood. On the court, it's hard to say.

Otsego still has to play Genoa, Elmwood, and Eastwood. All at Otsego.

Knights are likely to lose 2 of those 3 games or all 3. I'm really glad things are exciting in Tontogany these days but not ready this year to finish the job -- maybe in two years.

Agreed, but Juergens did make some clutch ones down the stretch and in OT.

How much basketball have you watched in the SLL? I go back to the beginning of SLL. The last 5-6 years in the SLL have been flat out bad. No teams that even resemble a regional or state team. Yes I was at the game. Not well played by either team. Way too many turnovers and easy missed shots to be whining about the officials. Both teams played average at best.

the game has changed way to much to compare now to the beginning of the sll. i will agree teams in this league are not very good at the basics but they are a whole lot more athletic

I havent posted at all on here but I am very familiar with the SLL and have looked over all these posts, here are my thoughts...

Regarding the top of the SLL, it has realistically been Eastwood's league to lose throughout the season. While they have struggled to get solid play from their guards, it appears they finally have figured out that they cannot rely too heavily on them and have learned to win without much contributions from those positions.

I also have been impressed with the play of Otsego. They have freshman playing big minutes for them and to be in the race this late in the season is a testiment to their coach. If they can find a way to go 2-1 in the aforementioned big games down the stretch they could pull out a tie for the league.

While their coach has done a great job, I also feel that Liskai out a Gibsonburg does an excellant job as well. He keeps his kids playing hard and gets a lot out of them.

As for Genoa, many of you come on here and rip into the coaching of Overmyer as to why they are not winning as you feel they should. While I agree that he needs to implement a few more offensive plays in, he is not the reason for their losses. While Bassit and Wonnell both are talented players, they are not the world beaters that you make them out to be. Yes they are skilled players, however those two are not talented enough to carry a team. The arguing amongst players is not the coaches fault, it falls on the young men to grow up and with that success will come.

It will be interesting to see how these teams finish the season and hopefully one can surprise some and make a little run throughout the tourny. For those to complain about the league being terrible are just looking to glorify the time that they were directly involved. Like all leagues, they go through ups and downs and the SLL is no different.
