When are the Sectional brackets posted?

I don't know what Sectional you are in but normally the aren't available until after weigh-ins and skin check are complete on Friday.

Seed meeting is Wednesday Evening brackets should be out on Baums Page Thursday or Friday

D2 East District already had its seed meeting...brackets are done. They usually sit on them though until the completion of the Central District meeting (as was mentioned, will be Wed night).

All brackets will be done Wednesday night. Unless there is a redraw with a seeded kid. I think? Everything seems to change year to year. I don't even like coaches choosing which sectional they go to. I think they should take coaches vote and place them where seeded regardless of weight classes. We are the only district that has sectional options.

^^^^Great idea, I would love to see that change.

My hope is to have preliminary brackets for all four of the D-I sectionals up by Wednesday night. ...that's the goal anyway.

That is amazing to me. I still don't understand why all sectionals are not mandated to have the same process. It's all part of the State Championship tournament.

So just round robin, or perhaps a snake draft? with the hosting schools exempted, (or perhaps attempted to fit based on their location in the vote?)

HilliardDad - I like the 2nd one ... it mimics the "normal" seeding of a tournament.

On a related note ... Regardless of how the teams are selected for Sectionals, it seems there could be some sort of seeding at the District. Even though I agree with using the "templates" that are used, you could select the template that properly seeded the top 4 ... even if they were not the 4 Sectional champs. I suppose that's a pipe dream ...

The whole picking your sectional site is simply silly and shows the lack of district leadership in Central Ohio. They don't feel the need to pick in the stronghold of NE Ohio.There is another thread started discussing the advancement of wrestling and the highlight of our season (the post season) lacks any excitement to draw fans this weekend. Unless of course, you want to go to Marysville and see how the consi semis at 113 play out. We completely throw out school and geographical rivalries that we should be promoting this time of year.

PA has arguably the deepest and most talented high school pool in the country, yet they do not "pick or even rank" their teams. Your section is simply your conference and you advance from there. Rivalry fires are stoked when a competitor turns the table on a regular season loss to advance or one team wins the post season section title after losing a dual to their rival. People come to watch. There is great interest in repeat match up results.

The Central team rankings are a farce. There is simply no way for coaches to honestly rank 40+ peer teams when they simply have not been able to see all of them.

Keep it simple. Divide the current OCC divisions into the 4 sectionals(Ohio, Cardinal, Central and Capital) with the regular season champion having the first option to host. Take the remaining 13 (non OCC) - Division 1 teams and assign them one of the 4 sectionals before the season starts and hold them there for 2 years until the enrollment figures are tallied again.

Before everybody jumps on the "there will be undeserving kids making it to Darby ahead of deserving kids....argument", ask yourself "is this district really that tough that a deserving kid is not going to make it out of the SECTIONALS and is this not happening now anyway"? Just my two cents....

Regional sectionals is a great idea ... use the Dual Team Championship team list (plus those with rosters too small to enter) as the Individual Championship sectional.

Pick North vs Lancaster for OCC title.
Pick North vs Lancaster for Dual Team Regional berth.
Pick North vs Lancaster wrestlers against each other for a district berth.

Tell me that doesn't create a rivalry between PN and LANC.

I'll throw a vote in the opposite direction and say I like the current process. I don't hear people complaining about basketball and it is generally how basketball works. Teams are seeded and they pick spots in the various Districts. I never hear people complain that no one can possibly know how strong each basketball team is. The only difference in wrestling is that you can re-pick after the dust settles.

I think the process adds some "game theory" and "strategery" to the process. Doing it randomly seems ham-handed to me.

Also, just because Northeastern Ohio and/or Pennsylvania may have better wrestling, it doesn't mean that they have a better selection process.

I did check what this means in one example Region 13 and Region 14 are essentially a district tournament.

One sectional would be half of Region 14 and would have the following:

Fairfield Union
Gallia Acdy
Col. South

132 lb class would be crazy good.

Regarding rivalries: I like that there are rivalries, don't get me wrong ... but IMO it is not necessary (or fun) to face the same guy week after week after week. Maybe it is in a team sport, I don't know ... But thinking back to the glory days (cough cough), I HATED wrestling a tough opponent for the 3rd or 4th time. If you have regular season tournaments, plus a dual, plus the state duals, plus conference, plus sectional, plus district ... you could conceivably see the same guy 5 times. Mentally exhausting / boring / tedious ... just not fun (IMHO).

So if the sectionals were to be drawn based purely on geography, you're definitely overlapping with leagues, convenient local duals, and local tournaments. I don't see any problem with shuffling the sectionals each year, but it does seem like some formulaic approach might be just as good as the current selection process.

My position has never been that one selection process is necessarily better than the other but rather the all districts should have the same process since they are all part of the State Championship tournament. Getting to Columbus should have the same requirements for all athletes across the State.

In addition, the criteria shouldn't be subjective.

What possible "game strategy" can there possibly be in picks 9-44? You are in danger in getting "bumped" or at the mercy of the highest ranked teams anyway. The "gamesmanship" comes from a flawed ranking system. NE Ohio and/or PA have it figured out so if they feel a change in process would be an improvement, don't you think they would have made it already?

Blast, try to look at it from increased fan excitement. You may be seeing that same kid at the sectional now anyway.

As I mentioned on another thread, before you decide to get rid of seeding and selection the coaches association in NE Ohio is trying to get the format/process we have. Additionally it is a decision made by the Central Athletic Board (of which Mr. Adams is a member), but is probably done so because that is how the other sports are also done in our area. BBall, Baseball, Soccer, Track, etc.

The fact that individual district are pushing for a certain type of seeding criteria is the issue. The entire State shold have the same criteria since they are all part of the same State Tournament.

The current process gives the coaches choice at the very least. I think by-in-large most coaches enjoy the current process because they feel an element of control. I've talked to coaches state wide, and many actually wish that they had a choice in the matter like the CD does. It may not be whats best for wrestling, but ultimately the coaches are the ones you would have to sell on the idea.

You are too focused on the team aspect. When I speak of strategy and game theory, I"m talking about coaches juggling their selections based on getting particular wrestlers to Districts and going so far as trying to position them for certain spots in the District. For example, a coach choosing a sectional with the best 152, so that his very good 152 will likely get 2nd and end up on a different side of the District. It may work, it may not. This is a chess game, game theory. I, for one, appreciate this process and don"t think it is "broken". Just my opinion. You"re welcome to yours.

as for NE Ohio and PA, you are confusing coincidence with causation. Just because they have stronger wrestlers, does not mean they have a better District selection process. That is a silly conclusion to make. It ignores a host of other factors (legacy, culture, etc.).

How is our current process not "what's best for wrestling"? Please explain without using Pennsylvania or NE Ohio in your answer.

Folks on here have lots of complaints, but I"ve yet to hear a cogent argument that our current process does not end up with the best 4 wrestlers at a given weight making it it to state.
Maybe the best 16 don"t make it to Districts, but I don"t buy for a minute, that our process keeps the best 4 from advancing, and that is ultimately what matters most.

i completely agree with Mutt Cuts that coaches in other portions of the state envy our system. At least those I"ve spoken with.
