Nice analogy fail. In fact, every single heterosexual comment you've made on this thread has been an analogy fail. You're either pretending to be, or are, completely ignorant to the persecution the GLBT community has faced and how talking about their sexual preference is extremely distinguishable from a heterosexual talking about the same topic.

Like I said 150 posts ago, GTFO webbie.
GFY, lhslep. We are all entitled to opinions, and this is mine. Which, by the way, yours is an opinion as well.

Pointing oneself out as being "different" does not help make you the same.

As someone in the 18-22 demographic who has probably been an elite-level athlete his entire life to date, I assume this means he should pretty much be constantly talking about how much action he's getting to anyone who'll listen.

This proves that you've COMPLETELY WHIFFED on the entire point of Sam's announcement. He's pointing out his difference to lessen the bigotry expressed towards the aforementioned difference. He's not trying to be "the same" he's trying to receive less bigoted treatment.

So far it seems as if he has not had any bigoted treatment. Said his school and team treated him great.

Announcing it doesn't accomplish that. Never will.

Sure, if you think it's all the time. But I've never known anyone that has announced it.

Because it's assumed by default, but people talk about their girlfriends/wives/having sex with girls all the fucking time. It's not treated like an announcement because it's assumed by default that people are straight. A guy talks about being gay and it's "OMG WHY DO YOU HAVE TO ANNOUNCE IT KEEP IT TO YOURSELF".

No it isn't. I have gay friends that talk just like you described all the time. Perfect! That IS treating it as normal. Which is far different than making an announcement, which is treating it as not normal.

OSH;1579997 wrote:I do not believe "health issues" is the primary reason why obesity is looked at as "undesirable."

Like many other things, what people want to do with their body is up to them. Smoking, obsessive drinking, drugs, etc. are all up to the individual. It is up to the individual on how they treat their body. When I see someone that is obese, I understand that it can cause health issues, but it is also abnormal to let someone's body get THAT big. It's a hindrance. Call it "lookism." Call it unattractiveness. Whatever you want to label it, it's not something that I desire -- and it's not really regarding health.

Maybe I am in the minority here, but I don't view obesity as being undesirable due to health issues. If that were the case, there are many things I'd stay away from (or others would too): alcohol, cigarettes, motor vehicles, tanning beds, etc.
Most fat people don't and that's why they are fat. Honestly, fat people are the worst.

Are you seriously that mad that a college NFL prospect came out and said he was gay?

Thanks for making my point for me. Your gay friends don't have to announce it (even though they did at some point, even if it was before they met you, which makes you even more wrong but whatever) because they're in a normal environment where it's now accepted to be gay.

Guess what place isn't normal? An NFL locker room and an NFL organization. You ever read some athletes' takes on homosexuality?

Like I said, I think you're being very clearly ignorant for trying to compare being openly gay in normal, everyday life to being openly gay in an NFL locker room.

The only ignorant thing here is gay people trying to make a big deal out of their sexual choices. Keep it to yourself. No one cares that you like it in the pooper.

Obviously people do, especially in a professional sports setting. If no one cared, someone would have come out a lot sooner.

He doesn't need to 'come out'. Why are gay people so obsessed with letting everyone know their sexual choices?

Oh, I didn't realize having an opinion on a d-i-s-c-u-s-s-i-o-n board meant you were angry. Why are you angry?

So a BCS football locker room is a normal environment? He seemed to handle it just fine there. Why couldn't he wait to get drafted, then have a meeting with his teammates about it if he felt he needed to make his environment better.

Also, for me it's not just this one announcement. It's all the celebrities and sports figures that do it for the cause (because, really, those are the only ones that make these announcements).
