Better be an officer, or at least an e-6, or have a job that pays bonuses..and those bonuses only help to compensate you because you'd make shit tons more on the civilian side...
My wife is about to go through the Physician Assistant program and when she is done will make about 30k less than she would on the civilian side...
Too much credit for what? My brother in law has flown over 7500 rescue missions in an hh-60. He has currently ran the most rescue missions in the air force. He's not all over the news, how is he given too much credit?
If a civilian helicopter pilot in this Country flew in and rescued people at a crash site, he'd be all over the news and called a hero.
Go fuck yourself durkie...
You most def can live well in the military but that isnt until you are in and gain a good amount of rank. The lower enlisted, not so much, but for those who stick it out can do well.
My brother was in the SEAL Teams for 6 years and went on a 4 deployments. After all his additional training, classes and certifications he was making some pretty good jack...but his job was pretty dangerous.

I think what durky said is pretty shitty and off base but that is par for course for that dickwad.
Do I think military members get too much credit? Not really, especially for those who have been deployed in a war zone. For myself, who hasnt been anywhere yet (not for the lack of trying though) I try to shun away from any credit because I havent gone anywhere yet and dont feel worthy of any of it.
but there are glory hounds out there who try to soak it all in and boast.
