The tournament last year was a great success and it is our hope that by changing the date of the tournament more wrestlers will be able to compete.
The tournament will now be taking place on Sunday February 16, 2014 at Delta High School.
The goal of this tournament is to give the less experienced wrestlers an opportunity to compete with wrestlers of similar experience. We feel that this will in turn lead to more wrestlers sticking with this great sport for the long term. We have over 440 participants last year and we are looking forward to having even more wrestlers come out this year.
Wrestling in Ohio has a rich tradition and history. It is our goal
that in hosting a novice state wrestling tournament we may be able to
encourage more wrestlers to become excited and involved with our
sport. By exposing wrestlers of similar experience we feel that they
will not feel as overwhelmed and over matched as they often do when
they first get started in this great sport.
We believe that the majority of wrestlers in most youth wrestling
clubs would be considered a novice. There are many reasons why kids
do not become engaged with our sport. We believe that by competing
against wrestlers that have avast more experience early on in their
development could hamper their progress and cause a reduction in
overall numbers of wrestlers at the high school level. By providing a
level playing field from the start it not only provides a safe arena
for competition but also allows the wrestlers to gain confidence in
their skills.
While it is clear that there is no black/white definition on who
is/isn’t a novice wrestler. We looked at other states definition and
came up with qualifications, which we believe are fair.
1. Must be an Ohio resident.
2. 3 years or less experience.
3. No OAC state qualification (Not including current year).
4. No OYWA state qualification (Not including current year).
5. No placing in top 6 OHIOWAY state, unless 8 or less in bracket (Not
including current year).
6. No return Novice State Finalist (1st & 2nd Place).
7. In the event of a challenge all wrestlers MUST have a copy of Birth
Certificate and signed Novice Verification Form on site.
The registration and $20 entry fee must be paid online atwww.TrackWrestling.com by Friday February 14 at 12pm. Teams interested
in signing up together can email the Tournament Coordinator, Amy, at
