Florio on PFT is saying that McDaniels could bring Matt Cassel to Cleveland with him to be in the QB picture with Hoyer and whoever we draft.

We're going to be the JV version of the Patriots before long.

Link?

Matt Cassel has a player option with the Vikings for $3.15 million. Do you actually think he will pass up on that option to be paid less with the browns to be a third string QB?

What about Hundley? I think he's actually a pretty good choice, maybe get a Watkins or Matthews early and then trade up if need be to get Hundley?

Browns will find a way to end up 4-12 or 5-11 next year too.

If the draft were today, I really don't see how that would not be the case. I don't see Manziel going early first round with his size though.

Cutler probably would command too much for the browns to want to shell out for what they would want.

I think they should go ahead and draft their guy at 5, and have Hoyer and some other guy on the roster. QBs are better suited nowadays to start when they enter The League. People want to look at Rodgers, and Brady, and Kapernick as guys who sat after they were drafted and now look at them. DIff situations for all of them, but one that is similiar to all of them is they all had a solid starter already in place to guide the team and the browns dont.

Exactly. Both the Packers and Niners were in the NFC championship game the season before Rodgers and Kap respectively took over.

No one was calling for them to play. One a 4 win football team, you don't have that luxury as the 1st bad pass of the game leads to calls to play the 1st rounder.

and no one expected brady to even become a starter, let alone one of the league's best ever. From what i had read, Kap was seen as a project and not someone they thought would take the reigns. Heck, if SMith doesnt get hurt he may never have played yet.

Some brwons fans wanna start hoyer, and let their top pick sit and develope. With the new CBA and salary structure you can financially do it, but just play the starter. What if Hoyer shows some instances of being OK, then what do you do? Let him go another season? He showed to be OK in his brief stint but he will have growing pains. Then you have more growing pains when Manziel starts most likely and then you fire a coach. Again.

Starter your future franchise. Recent history shows they can be successful, and let them grow up playing the game

I totally agree, and made the same argument after we drafted Weeden because of what happened in 2007 with Anderson/Quinn.

When you have a team that is so starved for wins like Cleveland, if the "bridge" starter shows anything and wins some games it becomes nearly impossible to then get him out of town so you can start your new guy (who is bound to struggle as a rookie). Then the second guessing starts and the vicious cycle begins again.

If you are going to draft a QB in the 1st round he needs to play and you need to commit to him through thick and thin.

There were only a few people who were fapping to the idea of weeden, and if I'm not mistaken weren't you one of them? The pick made fans excited and we were gonna sell a lot of tickets.... LOL

Defensive players should not exist to the Browns in the first round.

I'm pretty sure this is correct. I remember posts about how much excitement there was gonna be for the offense with Weeden and T-Rich.

I dont rmember much enthusiasm about the Weeden pick, but if you two saw some baffoons on here bragging him up that is possible.

The defense has been good for the browns even during this downturn, but this year they started to show alot of cracks. Even with that though, they have to get a QB with their first pick. This is a QB driven league. Hell, even this year if the browns had a QB they are at .500 or better I believe. Now I believe that defenses are going to have to start stacking up to stop this onslaught of offense, but the browns cannot afford to pass up a QB taht is franchise.

Pretty much 90% of those posts came from iqqy.

Also as long as the first pick is a QB id be ok with the browns getting the best available player with their 2nd first regardless of which side of the ball he is on.

I know this isn't really the argument, but everything I've been seeing has Matthews going #2 and Clowney going to Raiders.

I don't get drafting a QB, just for the sake of drafting a QB with the 1st pick. I mean, I definitely want Bridgewater or Bortles, but do you want the Browns to just go ahead and draft Manziel because he's a QB, instead of Clowney if he's available?

Yea, tackle is a much bigger need for the Rams than DE is.

I think if the QB that you want isn't there and for some reason Clowney is, you either draft him...or trade the draft pick so you can drop down a few spots.

Good thing for the Browns, either Clowney or Bridgewater/Bortles is very likely to be there at 4. Don't think there's really any team that would give the Rams want they'll want for the 2nd pick, and I can't imagine they wouldn't take Matthews.

I think he def had a down year considering what most expected, but he has all the physical tools and nastiness.
