Some people actually do win at slots like BR says (although its the worst odds to the player in the house) but its Fk'n boooorrrrring. Learn basic strategies on BJ, Craps and Roulette; walk in knowing how much you are comfortable losing if the action doesn't go your way that particular time and Casinos can be a fun night out. Never deviate from the pre-determined loss level by visiting the floor ATM. When you hit your loss limit get out of there. Two tips on BJ & Craps...if you are lucky enough to double your original buy-in, go do something else for awhile. Its overwhelming odds that you are due for a down streak.

I don't disagree with what you're saying and know it's horrible odds.

I'm not a card player. That's my nephew. He's taken Vegas & the Horseshoe in Cleveland for close to $500k. But that lil f#cker takes $8-10k in cash in his pocket every time he goes. When my mom told me he hit for almost $300k (two visits), I was stunned. From what I was told, he's lost a shitload of money too.

Even BJ isn't really a "card game"...you never touch the cards or have to bluff or make "tells" on your fellow players. The most simplest rule of BJ is assume the dealers down card is ALWAYS a 10 value card. If you never deviate from that simple assumption, and play as if you can beat his 10+, you can win at BJ and pretty much play for hours sometimes with a $100 buy - in.

If you play BJ perfectly your odds of winning are about 49%. It's a losing game like every other in the long-run, but there's enough volatility and your odds good enough you can win some money in individual sittings.

If you count, most simple methods can push your odds to about 51-52%, predicated not on winning more hands but on betting more money when you are more likely to get BJ (I've ALWAYS gotten cleaned with favorable counts - the dealer is getting face cards, too).

That's the best way to look at it. Why I seek out the lowest limits on BJ. Pai-gow is supposed to be really hard to not break-even.

I even saw "War" in one Vegas casino. I almost wanted to play just because I felt sorry for the dealer - although they rotate, so to them that's probably like a break (but they still can't sit down!)

We would stop at Wheeling Island or the ones in Pa before/after steeler games> We would usually set a limit of an hour. I am not a gambler at all so I just would bring XX amount of money that I would be prepared to flush down the toilet and play the slots. As they say..win some, lose some.

Whenever I'm in Vegas, I'll sit down and play just for the free drinks. :D

The suites are usually nice, as well.

Actually, many of the video poker slots have odds as good as anything in the house, frequently 98-99% payout. There are even some advantage machines where a skilled player can get 101% (these machines are rare, and usually being played). Comps can also tilt that 98-99% payout above a break-even for you. Theoretically you can consistently pay for your vacation playing the right video poker machines (which isn't saying you won't be down $10k until you hit a few of the top payouts).

Other slots range in payouts, usually lower on the Strip and around 92% (serious slot players know their payout tables and don't throw their money away on such machines). Lower limit machines (quarters, etc..) are often worse payouts (85%), and worse still if you aren't betting the max payout line.

Years ago the wife and I when to Vegas on one of her business trips. While she was in a meeting I hit on a $1.00 slot machine for $2000.00
Bought tickets for Lord of the Dance and Siegfried & Roy Show, we had great seats on the stage for the show.
When the five day meetings where over we had $500.00 in our pockets and heading home.. note: I hit a few more times but was mostly break even

I used to go to Vegas at least once a year, but haven't been there in the past 5 years. I was usually there for March Madness, and spent most of the time in the sport books. When gambling I stuck with Poker, Blackjack or Pai Gow. Pai Gow was a great way to sit and breakeven for hours on end while getting free drinks (the Stardust Casino was always great for this, until they tore it down...). Overall I usually left down a little from the basketball bets, and came close to breaking even on the card games...

"won a little" = broke even
"lost a little" = lost alot
"won alot" = was some but def not alot

Haha isn't that the truth! My personal favorite is how many only add-up their winnings, i.e. you won 5 hands of BJ and lost 5 for a net of zero, but they say they won $100 ($20 x 5).

My friends and I like to go to Mountaineer every few months. I have had decent luck on the slots twice and lost some ($100 or so) the other two times. I mostly go to hang out and have some IC Lights and people watch.

I lost like $60 at Horseshoe the one and only time I was there. Took about 10 minutes lol. Overall, I wasn't a huge fan. It was super crowded. Mantooth won some money, though.

Yeah, I walked out with maybe $150

I like to go, but I just mess around a little...i am not much of a gambler.

Or when they say they won 400 but put in 350 for a profit of 50. Not 400.

And yes that movie was awful..just will always remember that dealer and the games at that casino..go fish, war, rock paper scissors, lol

Just got back from a weekend n Windsor. Got lucky and hit a slot for $1,000. Usually just stick to the BJ tables though.

I really like playing Roulette. I play the $10 tables, and usually spread it out among the inside bets. I usually lose just a little bit playing...but I'm able to lose that over a long period of time so I am able to get a few drinks.

The only story I have from a Casino was when I was in Vegas a few years ago. I was playing roulette in the resort we were staying in off of the strip. There was an older lady at the table and I kept apologizing every time I reached over her to lay down my bets. She said it was refreshing to find a young man with manners and we began chatting. She told me how I would be great for one of her daughters, and then started asking me all kinds of personal questions which kind of weirded me out. She left and I kept playing with some guys from work. After about an hour...the lady came back and asked how I was doing at the table. I told her I was down about $200 and was probably going to turn in for the night. She threw down $200 on the table and told me, "it pays to have manners." Then she left. It was the coolest way I've ever broke even at a Casino.
