Had a kid this year who's head gear came loose during the match, it fell off 3 times and the ref stopped the action so we could apply a strip of tape across the strap. The velco had become messed up and it wouldn't hold. The ref had no problem with the strip of tape. One inch strip across the strap and the ref saw that it was new tape so no bacteria.

I see nothing in it about crossed straps.

How does the FHSAA, the NFHS, Bob Colgate's , the OHSAA, or any ref KNOW what how the "manufacturer intended" for them to be worn?
It seems to me that they are making an assumption.
Surely the folks who manufacture Cliff Keen headgear have seen some wrestling matches that their product is used in and know how their product is being used (with crossed and taped straps), if they didn't intend for the product to be used that way, THERE IS NO WAY THEIR LAWYERS WOULD LET IT BE SOLD WITH OUT DISCLAIMERS ALL OVER IT NOT TO USE IT WITH TAPE OR CROSSED STRAPS.
