I haven't really followed what might change, but a couple of things that might be interesting...will a low salary cap make teams have to unload top tier talent(miami is the interesting one obviously)? and does the potential lock out force teams to stand pat because players that would normally be tradeable...be untradeable because of the chance of missing at least half the season?

One other question....is there still talk of making college players play 2 years before they are eligible for the draft?

I noticed the cHeat's Mario Chalmers is a restricted free agent. He did have some big hoops for them in the playoffs. Any chance the Cavs would bid and (overpay) if necessary to get him (mainly just to p.o. the Heat)? He's not a bad player and I'm sure could find minutes for the Cavs.

??? Chalmers is a PG.

They just took this guy named Kyrie Irving. They also already have Boobie Gibson and Baron Davis? Where would Chalmers play?

Yes, I think the best strategy for the Cavs is to overpay every free agent from Miami just to piss them off. Why stop with this year's roster? I'm sure Antoine Walker would sign for the league minimum. Rony Seiklay could use some money. Good idea ricola.

Please explain calling them the CHeat though. That's the only part of your post that doesn't make sense.

I'm not rescuing anything. Just pointing out how stupid it would be for the Cavs to overpay Mario Chalmers just to piss off the "CHeat." I don't too many professional teams operate like that, but if one of the best fans in the NBA thinks it's a good idea, maybe they should.

No it was def a dumb post, just thought it was funny 2/3 of the posters who i figured would respond actually did respond.

I was in the process, until I noticed the heat nut hugger sprinted to the response. lol at the petty insult though. Getting worse by the post, and thats saying something with nearly 14,000.

After all the injuries, Greg Odense gets an 8.8 mil qualifying offer from Portland. Wow!!! He's gotta be saying, where do I sign. Though wasnt there talk that Portland's doctors are trash? Either way he won't get 8.8 somewhere else. Sign it!!

Lockout officially starts at midnight. How long do you think its going to last?
ESPN's cap guru Larry Coon was on Ryan Russillo's NBA podcast yesterday. Coon doesn't think meaningful negotiations will even start until mid-November when the players miss their first paycheck. He added that both sides seem ready for a long fight, especially the owners. Said losing the entire season isn't out of the question.
According to NBA executives familiar with the league’s strategies, once the lockout is in place, the owners will push for a hard salary cap of $45 million, the elimination of guaranteed contracts and ask that the players swallow a 33 percent salary cut.

The concessions made in recent weeks, including the “flex cap” of $62 million and a guarantee of $2 billion in annual player payroll, will be off the table.

If this seems certain to guarantee the loss of the entire 2011-12 season, it is because there are owners who think it is necessary for the long-term viability of the league.

The vikings and the Seahawks did it. After the Vikings signed Hutchinson to that deal with the posion pill clause the Seahakws turned around and signed one of their WRs with the same clause. So yes, it does and has happened before. Nice fail.

WKNR was talking about the Cavs taking a "flier" on him if ^^^this didn't happen. The (hypothetical)offer would have been a 1 year deal for about $7 million with a 2nd option year at $8 mill if he stayed healthy/played a certain amount of games. At the figure that Portland has offered, he should take it. That's grand theft for his level of production. If another team would've signed him they would have likely had to overpay for that first year anyway.

I'm actually probably one of the few that would be tickled shitless if an NBA lockout lasted a year.
