Cleveland, I think a couple of the candidates are capable of beating Obama. I respect your opinion about Paul but I think others could beat Obama also.

If this were any other election, I'd think long and hard about voting for the NJ Governor. This one in 2012 is different than any other election I've been a part of. Our country is at a tipping point in history economically. We need a strong leader. We need somebody that doesn't mince words. We need someone to take charge and lead from the front. We need someone to tie us together with bailing wire and duct tape if need be and NOT separate us into classes, skin colors, nationalities, unions, and castes. Do I like his immigration stance? No, but I've seen worse.
Do I like his 2nd Amendment statements about controlling "some guns" (whateverthefuck that is)? No, but at least he's not like Obama's stance.
Do I like his comments about the Ground Zero mosque? No, but that's something for the New Yorkers to decide, not some paeon in Podunk, Ohio.
Do I like his Race to the Top needs? This isn't very high on my, "OMG, he's not a true conservative" tote board.

I DO LIKE his stance on all matters economic. He pulled the plug on a $2,000,000,000,000 tunnel project linking NJ to NY because they didn't have the money. Shocking stuff, eh?
I do like his standing up to the almighty unions in NJ.
I do like his ability to balance budgets.
I do like his inate ability to make decisions and not apologize for pissing the losers off. Strong leadership this is called and not cowering to the masses and those with a minority viewpoint.

In stronger economic and leadership times, yeah...I'd be for someone else. In 2012....he's the man best suited for the job. We can't afford 4 more years of Barry and survive. Hell, as Oats says, November 2012 can't get here fast enough.

I like his economic side and the fact that he doesn't let people run all over him but other than that I'm not a big fan.

First of all, the guy stated multiple times, emphatically, that he's not (or wasn't) ready to be president. Right there are about 15 ready-made commercials for the Obama campaign. But back to the issues:

1. 26 states have challenged Obamacare via the legal system. New Jersey is not one of them. Why I don't know, but to me there's no excuse. This tops the list for me.

2. He's been shaky on gun rights and the 2nd Amendment.

3. Spoken in favor of the "green movement" and man-made climate change/global warming.

4. Shaky on handling illegal immigration (amnesty).

5. He made a controversial (at best) judicial appointment of Sohail Mohammed, who has some ties to some shady Islamist organizations. When questioned about these ties, Christie responded in his usual calm, humble, thoughtful way and insulted anyone who dares to question the role of sharia law in the American judicial system.

On top of all that, Christie has proven himself to be one arrogant governor. At first, I got a kick out of his antics when they were directed at New Jersey's teachers unions, then I realized that he operates this way far too frequently. It's one thing to be firm, bold, and not take crap from the media and leftist opponents; it's another to turn every speech and press conference into a YouTube audition and sling arrogance and rudeness every which direction. The recent hurricane was a perfect example: "Get the hell off the beach. You've worked on your suntan long enough" or something to that effect. Not very professional or statesmanlike if you ask me.

If he does get into the race, he's going to have a lot of questions to answer.

Can anyone see why Ann Coulter is so big on the guy? Before I knew anything about his policies and she said she wanted him to run I assumed he was a big time conservative but now I'm shocked she really likes him. I have only found one social issue that I agree with him on so far (abortion).

If we don't get our spending under control, there won't be another time. It is highly likely the next POTUS will preside over the dollar being replaced as the world's currency unless we can get a handle on our debt. At that point, printing money and QE3, QE4, QE-infinity won't work. Ever heard of Zimbabwe?

Johnson, Bachmann and Paul would, but they're not going to win the nomination.
Romney? No way, he's got too much liberal blood pumping through his veins and RINO's don't cut spending. Ditto for Huntsman.
Perry? Maybe, but he seems like he could be influenced by cronies...ugh, another one.
Cain? Maybe, but he's never been in government (a good thing), so he could be coerced by the entrenched elites.
Newt? Doubt it unless he hires Kasich to do it for him.

To me, cutting spending and ignoring the pleas from affected constituencies (like the Dept of Edumacation/NEA & Dept of Energy) are paramount to survival over Muslims being placed in judicial posts. FWIW, the "get off the beach" comments were spot-on as many people think it's "fun" to ride out hurricanes...until they change their mind too late. It was brass words for a situation that needed it.

I understand that I'm not going to agree 100 percent with any candidate but like I said I only agree with Christie on one social issue so far. I will stick with Herman Cain.

Possibly. Some day. I doubt in 4 years. People have been predicting the Euro would replace, or at least share, status as the global reserve currency. We can now officially throw dirt on the belief. The Yen? Never in the running, really.

The Chinese Renminbi? That's all the rage now, but reality is we're a good ways away from that happening. China is still manipulating its currency rather severely, and they have banking and financial issues that just aren't going to allow it to be a global reserve currency any time soon. In terms of a financial market, China is still pretty much a 3rd world country and it's really not going to become a reserve currency any time soon. It's banking and financial system is basically a black box where even China doesn't really know what it has.

Most likely candidate is a basket of currencies. Been some talk about this for some time, but doesn't seem to have any real momentum. For all the doom and gloom over the demise of the dollar, the govt is still able to borrow money at ridiculously low rates. China and Japan, for all their saber rattling, still have a very symbiotic relationship with the US consumer - it's the global equivalent of supplier financing. So what if they get 97 cents on the dollar or whatever? Net net they're coming out way ahead.

And all this talk about the US not making anything. Well, a lot of the companies in China and elsewhere shipping products to the US are actually owned by US corporations, which is partly why investment capital continues to flow to US markets, so it's a bit problematic and misleading to only look at the Balance of Trade.

What you are seeing in the US right now is a classic debt overhang issue. The US economy is not that unhealthy, we just need to get control of the deficit and debt.

I am not a fan of Christie or Obama. I have about as much knowledge of what a county free holder does that I do about what a community organizer does. I am registered dem, but my voting would probably look more like that as as independent. People attack both of these individuals because of their lack of political experience. I don't particularly care for either of these two, but I don't think that we need a lifelong politician. We need someone who has demonstrated that he/she has leadership ability.
