Bitterrunner-up;642031 wrote:While I agree that scoring in regulation would solve the problem, there are overtime rules in wrestling because sometimes matches go to OT. The "Ultimate Tie-Break" is a ride out situation. The top wrestler is not required, by rule, to attempt to turn his opponent. His job, by definition is to ride. It would seem odd that a wrestler would be penalized for doing exactly what the rulebook says he's supposed to do.

I wasn't there and have no dog in that fight, but it just sounds like another case of an official not knowing his rulebook.
Basically the same exact scenario unfolded in a match between Ed's and Walsh. UTB decided in last 10 secs by referee stalling call. I was under the assumption at that point that the goal is to ride out if possible.

Bobby was stalling the whole time in Ultimate the guy got out and Bobby just stayed on his leg you have to improve your position and Bobby failed to do that. Also I believe Smith is a little bit of a staller too he barely takes any shots and when people shoot on him he just blocks and then most of the time they are in a front headlock series.

Again, no dog in this fight, but hanging on a leg is one of the things that is specified as a stalemate call the first time in the Ultimate Tiebreak. The refs call it different, the wrestlers wrestle it different. My understanding of the rules is that a stalemate should be called in that situation the first time and then a stalling warning the second time.

Wow! What matches were you watching? Bobby outshot Assad and Rix by at least a dozen shots between both matches....They both did the same when Bobby shot and that was either a front headlock or underhooks from their knees and neither one threatened to score on him 1 time....How many times did Bobby threaten to score.....a few times in each match!! Done arguing about this Bobby should have gotten the takedown and didn't but Bobby will be back and even better from that loss.

You must be Bobby's Dad or something because I dont see Bobby ever do anything just get in the front head lock with people why do you think he matches are always so close because he stalls the whole time during the match

He has had 4 close matches this year out of 25.....the rest were pins and techs by the way! At the CIT he had 2 quick pins and in the quarters against a kid from Padua who was seeded ahead of him(whom placed 4th last year at CIT'S) Bobby had him 17-0 in the second period and got the pin with the tech.....then had 2 close matches against 2 studs(Assad/Rix)....you must not be watching the same kid! By the way he was 20 and 0 at 112 this year in which he has wrestled some really good kids and won....Dont get on here and bash a kid and say he's no good when you are probably a wrestler(not a dad) that will never see the State Tournament and is very jealous!! Bobby will be fine and look forward to seeing him on the podium this year! Good Luck to him and to all Central Ohio Wrestlers!.....No I'm not his dad!

I have seen smith, and cautious wrestling is not stalling. Pinning people is not stalling. I don't know, I think the kid has a ton of pins though. Again, I am not associalted with smith, but I have seen him wrestle multiple times, and I don't think he is a staller. I just think people get mad when their Idols can't take him down.

I think I'd be more impressed with him if he WAS able to do all of this from just a front headlock! But since he didn't, he'll just be an average wrestler to me. I mean, come on. Who CAN'T score using a single or a double leg!? Singles and doubles are... OVER RATED! clap-clap-clap clap clap! Let me guess... on top he likes to use legs or run tilts. Or even a half nelson!?!?! HA!!! A half nelson!!! What a riot. A gas, even!!!

...a half nelson to turn somebody... don't be ridiculous...

To steal a line from somebody on this forum... "Fundamentals are a crutch for the talentless!"

I haven't heard people say that.....he just dropped to 103, 3 days ago? You must be dreaming of people saying that! There's a guy named Tomasello out there but anything can happen but I'm not dumb enough to make that bold prediction......I do think he can make it to the Finals though and then you never know....anyone can be beat!

6minutes...grow some thick skin. The better Smith gets the more jealousy and nitpicking there will be. The posters who are complaining dont have many posts. Wonder why? I think you hit the nail on the head. Just sit back and watch/enjoy Smith have a "Great" high school career. And if he chooses, a great career in college. Good Luck this year to Smith and yourself.

I am glad I dont allow Bobby to get on here and read this crap. He's a high school freshman working his butt off doing the best he can. Leave it alone.. its one match that we could care less about. What matters is march.

I would rather lose now, use it to motivate me daily, and have the last laugh in March. Nobody will ever remember this tourney. They remember state titles.

I just watched the Rix/Smith match over on GOhio. I'm pretty sure that, while Smith is clearly stalling in the Ultimate Tie-break, by rule that first stall call is a stalemate call. It would not surprise me at all if Smith knew the rule and was wrestling accordingly. Smith has been around long enough to know you have to work up on a leg in that situation. The only reason you don't, is if you're in the Ultimate Tie-Break and you know a stalemate is coming. Had the match been called properly, a stalemate would have been called and they would have reset for a final ten seconds or so.

Bitter; obviously you are no coach or official. This was blatant stalling which could have been called 10 seconds earlier. Smith immediately dropped to an ankle and hung with his head buried 20 seconds while being dragged across the mat. Hopefully the coach learns from this and teaches his wrestler’s how to win in OT. The stalling call will come much quicker come district/state time.

Still a good weekend for Smith. Impressive win over Assad.
