So do the UC faithful think Kelly is better than Dantonio? Or is he simply benefitting from the new path Dantonio got started? Hey ND don't kiss the first girl who shows you some attention. I say hold out for somebody of substance. If you select Kelly you will be looking again in 3 more years.
Kelly > than Dantonio by a mile. Dantonio got some good recruits in the system which helped the first year or two of Kelly's tenure, but Kelly has taken clomplete ownership of this team. Many of the recruits Dantonio brought in were converted to another position by Kelly. More often than not, it worked out for the best (ie. Connor Barwin from TE to DE, Gilyard from DB to WR, Ramsey from LB to RB). From this year's team, only eight players remain who were Dantonio recruits. The rest are Kelly's guys.
Additionally, BK reached out into the community of students, alumni and citizens to garner interest into this program. He let them know we can succeed here. He has helped raise a lot of money for the program. Dantonio had no interest in this and as a result he was not able to get over the hump with attendance. Look at what Kelly is doing-- UC is selling out Nippert and they aer talking expansion. Dantonio was lucky to get 25,000 to attend a game.
Finally, I know the OSU fans love Dantonio because he was the defensive coordinator at OSU. Look at what he accomplished at MSU. He finished 6-6 and his team is 22-16 over his tenure. This is the same record that J.L. Smith had at the same point in his career at MSU. I read today where 15-20 of his guys just got into trouble for some off the field activity. Dantonio might be looking for another job soon if he doesn't right the ship up in East Lansing.
