It seems to me that the Tea Party is going to split the Republicans but not split the Democrats. Since I am a devout Democrat, I am very happy about this.

Well why is it called the Tea Party then in recognition of the Boston Tea Party which was a tax protest? I understand that TEA has been said to stand for "taxed enough already" which is insane when probably more than half of them don't pay federal income tax which is what I imagine the major taxes protested against are.

I mean, threats against IRS agents are on the rise, not threats against local county auditors.

I don't know, I've only been to one tea party and it was the Cleveland Tea Party last year when all of this got started and I was just a casual observer, just listening...I wore my " American Flag draped on the Statue of liberty" t shirt so I would fit in and it seemed to me the largest grumbling was about the federal income tax. That was just my experience though. And I just thought, how can you be "taxed enough already" and you're directing this sentiment towards the IRS when they give half of the people in the crowd refunds???

Like I said, 47% of America is in the same boat as far as paying taxes go, so all this says to me is that the Tea Party is a more well rounded group of Americans than people think--not just a bunch of rich white pricks.

Where did I say 100%? I've said half to most based on self described characteristics with 76% considering themselves working-middle class. I've suggested that only the upper portion of that group likely paid any federal income tax at all and likely very little because of the consumption tax treatment afforded to middle class incomes in the code.

According to a New York Times/CBS Poll from this April, 52% were ok with their own income taxes (because they probably didn't pay any and the one's who probably paid may less than a grand were upset) and yet they're part of a group who's fundamental original premise is to protest the income tax.

It would make MORE sense if the Tea Party was only rich, white pricks, but it's apparently it's not...

Have you ever been to a Tea party rally? I have and they are not a well rounded demographic.

And it makes no sense that it's made up of every kind of American hi-jacking what is an anti-federal income tax movement at it's heart. I didn't say that they didn't pay other taxes...I'm sure they pay state, local, excise and payroll taxes...But at the tea party I went to no one was calling for the head of cuy. county auditor frank russo because of property taxes, ya dig?

And at the same time, shouldn't that same logic have been applied when conservatives went ballistic about the fact that only 47% of americans pay any federal income tax? I didn't see you in that thread talking about Single mothers who pay no federal income tax still paying state and local sales tax, etc.

There's this general theme floating around of this idea that these tea partiers are hard working honest Americans just trying to get by and love their families and be good true Americans and somehow this effort is being halted by these powers that be in the Congress and IRS in this far away land of Washington D.C. taking dollars away from them and handing them to lazy, blood sucking baby breeding welfare queens while they lay on their porches leeching off of the hard work of others...

When in reality, a likely majority of these tea partiers, (given the better than consumption treatment of the income brackets tea partiers self-proclaim to be in) are getting the same tax treatment from the FEDs in many instances as some of these Obama Supporters/non-tea partiers.

Very many of them are likely in the same boat...their wages are stagnating, their health care costs are going up, their gas tanks are taking more of their pay check, it's hard to find work and their credit card bills are stressing them out....etc. and so on.
