Earl Wilson was a pretty good slugging pitcher, but I don't think he ever hit .300.

Up on it enough.  Drysdale did it in 1965, batting exactly .300 and popping 7 HRs in 130 at-bats, all while posting a 23-12 record as a pitcher and leading the league in starts.

He did finish 5th in the voting.  Had a sub-3.00 ERA, as well.

Unfortunately, Willie Mays decided to belt 52 HRs and bat .317 that year.

Yeah, I couldn't believe those stats when I read them.  He could have been in the MVP voting for his pitching alone.  The batting should have done it, as far as I'm concerned.  That's too good to not give the MVP.

The kicker?  He wasn't even the top PITCHER in votes that year.
