My belief is that cholesterol is an awful health metric.  A Coronary Calcium scan is the test.

Statin side effects don't outweigh any potential benefit in my mind

That makes a lot of sense.  I've seen reference to several studies that statins may only be effective if you've been diagnosed with a heart issue.
