We got to the vet and he finally started walking around like nothing was ever wrong with him. What a morning. 

We had this happen with a cat. We took him in as a stray so we have no clue on how old he is but has to be close to 20. About a year ago he had a seizure, fell down and couldn't get up or move. My fiancee came upstairs freaked out and told me what happened. Didn't figure he'd make it through the night. Woke up and he was waiting for his wet food with the other cats. Still alive but probably getting close. Was just really weird.

My dog with the glowing green eyes is about 17.  She has gone down hill the past few months.  Doesn't bark anymore.  Lost some of her hair down her back.  For some reason likes to steal the cats food over eating her food.  Gets lost in corners and behind furniture.  She can't do steps any more so we have to carry her out to get her deeds done.  Sometimes she loses her shit right in front of us then heads to her cage because she feels bad.  She paces around at night and wakes us up with her nails clicking on the floor.  At this point she is a burden to us.  She does not seem to be in pain right now.  She still watches me when I am cooking hoping for a mistake or a toss of meat.  I miss her jumping up and down at the door when I get home.  Now its me doing a welfare check.

The last few months can weigh heavy.  When they start growling and snipping at you (not because they want to), you'll know they're hurting, and it will be getting to the time to let go. 

My dog "Fluffy" died naturally.  She lost her ability to stand this weekend and would no longer eat.  I knew I would have to take her in this week.  She always loved laying in front of the fireplace when I got a fire going.  My wife gave her a last bath and we laid her down in front of the fireplace.  I just checked on her about an hour ago.  She died peacefully by the fire.  I will be burying her at the new property tomorrow.

What a wonderful way to send her out.  You guys treated her perfectly.

Sorry for your loss, but it sounds like the best case scenario for how she passed.

Nice to know she closed her eyes for the last time knowing she was with her loved ones. 

One of my classmate said her old cat stretched under the tree yesterday to rest, my friend walked out of the room for 30 seconds, and her cat had passed away when she got back. Just that fast.

Sorry for your loss, but it sounds like the best case scenario for how she passed.

Yes I am thankful I did not have to take her in to have her put to sleep.  Better than a needle from strangers.  I found a nice spot in the woods on the far corner of the property next to a tree.  Marked it with a keystone.  She would have loved the land.

sucks about your loss. but i love how the dog went out. in her favorite spot without any fuss. 

my only fear with having to put our dog(s) down is that we can't do it at home where they are in their element and comfortable with surroundings. on the other hand i'm not looking to prolong any suffering so if it gets bad enough there isn't much choice i feel.

Had a senior cat pass away overnight. The vet where I live is closed on Thursdays and I could tell he was on his way out Wednesday night. Found him passed this morning, which I kind of expected.

We took this cat in about 7 years ago from the mother of one of our grandkids along with a second cat who passed about 3-4 years ago from old age.

The way I look at it is that the grandkids' mom was planning on dumping this cat at a shelter, so he would've been euthanized. No way we were letting that happen. I'd guestimate him to have been 18-20 years old so he had a good life with us and a good run.

I think it’s time to make the appointment for our old blind guy. I’ll be calling the vet tomorrow. The last few weeks have been a struggle, he seems to be losing his appetite and is having a lot of problems pooping.

So sorry to hear that. It's very tough.

Sorry for your loss

We have a 14 year old Shih Tzu-Bichon. He's solid still, but almost completely deaf and my self diagnosis of cataracts. Still personable, eats, shits regularly, etc. But I am not looking forward to the day. He was my wife's dog and I met him at age 4...he is VERY loyal, but I have worn him down to the point where I am a 1B to my wife's 1A. Makes me sad to even think about.

My sincere condolences.  

I was thinking about your post yesterday.   Our 17 year-old grizzled pup got up from his bed in the middle of the day, looked around like he was lost, then peed in the bed without any whining or whimpering.  I've been taking him outside 4x a day already, had only been 3 hours since last time.  Made me wonder if I'm making that call in the next month or two.

We decided to make the call on our other dog in poor health, he goes in for his final vet appointment on Friday evening. Kinda crazy we started the year with 3 dogs and at the end of the week we'll just have one. And unfortunately our 3rd and favorite dog is starting to really show signs she's breaking down. I don't think we'll make it thru the year with her.
