Today is the one year anniversary since the FCC voted to repeal NN (yes I know it went into effect in June).  As predicted, the end of the internet is nowhere near and all of these people who were supposed to die are still alive.  In fact broadband investment increased for the first time since NN and internet speeds in the US went from being ranked 12th in the world to 6th.  I even see ISPs providing incentives such as free prime membership for a year if you sign a contract with them.  The hysteria over NN repeal is/was laughable at best. With 5G  coming soon it will be even more laughable.

I was reading on another board, and people were up in arms over Trump repealing Obama-era regulations on small waterways....basically Trump was making it "ok" to pollute water!  

Then it was pointed out that the law was passed in 2015...so back to the dirty, polluted water of 2014.  But actually the law hadn't even gone into effect, yet....so back to the dirty, polluted water we already had.  And, finally, the Trump EPA is re-writing the rule to give more power and control of the issue to the states.  The HO-RR-OR!!!

Nothing like a little fake news to provide the daily fix for outrage!

Funny how we don't realize the problems we don't have until someone gets us frothed up into believing we have them.

Since Net Neutrality was repealed my speeds have gone up and costs have gone down. So, you know, the horror...

Your story might be anectodal, but US speeds have gone up nearly 40%.  That is a fact.  Broadband investment has increased for the first time since NN.  That is also a fact.

Two years since the NN repeal vote and all the dumbass doomsday predictions regarding the internet have not come to fruition.  There were some very laughable predictions too (oMg, tWitTer is GoiNg tO cHarGe yOu pEr TwEEt!!!).

 Instead, internet has sped up, more people have access to internet, companies are investing more into their broadband, and in a lot of cases the cost shrunk. Imagine if state/local governments stayed the fuck out and allowed businesses to compete.  You would probably find several towns with FREE internet.  Hopefully the government stays the fuck away from over regulating 5G too.
 

I never understood the argument that NN repeal would give big corporations control of our internet, while big corporations (i.e. Amazon) advocated for NN.  That should have been an immediate red flag on that argument. 

If you want to really mess with people, insist that net neutrality causes climate change.

I don't know if I've heard Biden say anything about NN, but I thought at least a few candidates brought it up in the debates.  Same tired arguments that anyone paying attention should just laugh at by now.

Haven't seen any NN fearmongering on the tech sites in quite some time.

I get 10MBPS in the country.

Yes.

Seems like speeds are just marketing now.  A family of 5 all streaming netflix simultaneously need only like 75mbps for the highest quality streams.

HOW DID WE EVEN SURVIVE THE LAST 4 YEARS? It's a miracle we're all still here.

Well, shit, they finally did it.  They finally broke the internet (at least partially)...

Can't wait to see how this impacts my already normally 2-hr delayed flight home each week.
