It will be interesting to me to see if Avengers beats Black Panther's box office numbers. If it doesn't, that pretty much proves why BP has made so much money.

Lol maybe I'm dense, but can you please spell out what it will prove?

People don't flood the theaters to watch a good movie.

Do I think it's entertaining overall? Sure. Do I think it should make more money than Infinity War? No. Every black person In the country apparently came out to watch it.

Dolores Claiborne - 7.5/10

I haven't watched it in years and it still held up for me.

Repeating what I said in the spoilers thread....Infinity War is pretty much Citizen Kane as far as I’m concerned.

Spectacular movie.

One of my favorite quotes comes from that movie:

"I'm about half past give a shit."

I could be wrong, but I feel like the core fans go to all the marvel movies. I would feel like I was missing something if I didn't. If you never watched guardians then you wouldn't understand the dynamic between Nebula and Gamora. If you never watched Thor you wouldn't understand what the tesseract is?

I can see why Black Panther might draw in additional fans, but I don't think it's a bad thing if they managed to appeal to a wider audience.

I completely agree, but BP's previews were just ok (imo obviously) and to me, one character, especially one who isn't a top 5, shouldn't make more money than one with a collection of characters. I think BP is a good movie. I just don't think it's as good as the box office shows. Jmo

I guess I don't understand why the "Why Black Panther was so popular" thing really matters. Seems like since it's come out, the average "this site" commentary on it has been: "Black people really love it and are acting like it's super-culturally important to them, so here I am as a white dude to tell them they're wrong because I just thought it was good!!!!"

Just seems pointless to me to critique a movie based on how people who aren't you feel about it. "Man, Passion of the Christ was decent torture-porn where that long-haired dude really got fucked up, but I don't get why all those church-types praised it!!!"

Well for me, it's because I've read countless comments on different social media avenues where a person gets called racist or jealous if they critique the movie. It's cool that it has made the money it has, but I don't need to be called racist because I point out something I didn't like about a movie.

It's bc Black Panther is a better badass character than some of the other Marvel movies, IE Ant Man & Captain America IMO. It's not that hard to see why people would be drawn to a movie that doesn't star a perfect rich white guy bigdaddy. Give the audience something different that the usual and they'll likely enjoy it.

I'm not down on the movie or the character. Do I think he is as interesting as the biggest named Marvel characters? No. He is definitely more interesting to me than Ant Man although I don't consider Ant Man a big character. His movie did well, but he's still a minor character. I also have no issue with people liking a movie because it appeals to their culture or gender. I didn't leave the theater thinking about how entertaining or good the movie was like I did the first Avengers and as I assume I will Infinity War. It has nothing to do with race or gender for me as I don't care if I identity with anyone in a movie. I get that people do but it's never been my thing especially for a comic book movie. As I said my main issue is that I don't like being called a racist because I didn't think it was God's gift to movies. Just my opinion.

Saw Infinity War, going to see it again in 3D probably next weekend.  So far I would give it a 9/10. The only "critique" I would have is it seemed "choppy" story line wise at times but that is going to happen when you have like 20+ super heroes doing different things to at different planets/places to try to stop Thanos.

I will say that it is the first Marvel movie (ok, Thor:Ragnorok did too) that has a really Bad Ass villian that actually kicks the crap out of people.

It really is "dark" and you should really watch taking young kids to it, 2 different younger kids in my theater were crying pretty bad at the end of the movie.

Black Panther - 8.5/10

I thought it was really, really good.  They elongated the battle scene at the end, which was my only gripe, but it was an excellent movie.

Just watched Coco (watching it for 2nd time with daughter)... holy shit.  I'm not Mescan, but it still stabs the feels hard. Very well done.  The attention to detail is mind bottling.  One scene in particular... They look at a footprint.

"It's a child's!"

"Size 7!"

"And a half!"

"Pronated!"

... Then the very next scene, Miguel (the child in reference) the child is subtly walking... pronated.
