From the way a lot of the people on this board talk you would think 1950-1999 the NBA was just a minor league it didn't actually become professional league until the year 2000.

I've seen Jordan, people say he's GOAT. So if I think Lebron > Jordan, then Lebron = GOAT, and you can take that to the bank.

Lebron is no Jordan yet. But I do believe he has the ability to pass him in the future.

Lebron is not ahead of Jordan yet. He certainly could be in the future but not yet.

As for the NBA, many people have short term memory when it comes to players and teams that player more than 10 years ago and don't realize how good some older players and teams really were.

Knew this thread was coming.

To answer the question, no.

You're overreacting with this thread anyways. I don't think the 90's was that amazing. Especially when you have two of the best 10 players from the whole decade on the same team. And it all kind of became a joke to me when Jordan "retired" (aka got an undisclosed suspension for gambling) and then came back and there still wasn't anyone who could touch the Bulls. Believe me, I loved watching it--I loved watching Jordan. But the league was vastly overrated from top to bottom in the 90's.

The 80's were awesome.
70's not far behind the 80's.
50's-60's, generally bad from top to bottom, but some of the greatest players ever.

It's my STRONG opinion that the league has never been as good as it has been in the 2000's. This is a stupid argument every time it comes up anyways--I don't look for this thread to be any different.

Well if it's a stupid argument every time, why are you usually the center piece of the argument every time? When you say stupid argument, should we take that as a good thing? You have a hard time staying away from it, thus it must be something you enjoy participating in.

It's stupid because it never goes anywhere and no ones mind changes, but like I just posted on another thread--you know me as well as anyone, how often am I not willing to throw my 2 cents in?

Shit, politics is the one of the dumbest possible argument you could ever get into--but I do it on a daily basis.

I know lol. When I asked the question I already knew the answers. It's not the topic that makes it fun, it's about the argument itself.

The NBA started dying around 2000, I'd say.

LOL, no need to take cover. You stopped watching, I know that and I don't even know you--assuming that that is really your opinion.

But no need to take cover, people who feel the way you do don't even warrant any argument from me.

The 90's wasn't the greatest decade for the NBA. I don't give a shit what anybody says.

Jordan kept the NBA going in the 90's.

the 80's was a GREAT decade for the NBA..

The current NBA is in great shape though. Again, the talent pool is MUCH deeper now.

EVERY team has at least 1 all star caliber player, most have 2.

The beginning of the decade wasn't too great, there were a few good teams, but mainly the Lakers and Spurs dominated.

Besides, my MJ thread wasn't comparing talent of individuals, more so the depth of the league.

Ya, I don't watch anymore. In fact, I really hate the NBA and the game that it is today. It has nothing really to do with talent.

^^ The NBA now is almost not real basketball. It's street ball with ticky tack foul, whiny players, and basically has seperate rules from regular basketball. Some of the continuation is crazy, implementing a unreal zone which is not close to a zone, no traveling when guys take about 50 steps, dumb foul rules, and so on. If they played under college rules it would be a much better game.

I'll still contend '79-'93 was the best NBA period of time.

granted i really wasnt old enough in the 90s to remember, but when i hear people talk about how they just drive to hoop with their main intention to just get a foul, i wonder if that is even basketball.

LOL

Under the college rules?

Do you even watch the college game? It's basically 3 pointer after 3 pointer. BOTH levels are REAL basketball though.. Because it's in the reality upon which we live in ;)

LMAO!

They say us young guys just have no memory and we didn't get to see a lot of the old game. Well, I've watched A LOT of old games from every era, and I'll say this for you guys--your memories are starting to fade you old men!

So much of what Knight said is KIND of true, but DEFINITELY wasn't any different in the days that these guys say was the best ever. The media publicized things like continuation and all that BS and everyone jumped on that, but it's easier for them to just say we don't know then actually remember that the game was the same back then. Actually it was worse.

But I still hold tight on my stance that everything in sports improves--they learn from the greats of the past and the game IMPROVES all the time, to assume it steadily gets worse is really silly IMO.

what has changed in basketball is the game at one time first and foremost was about competition. entertaiment was second. but that all changed the same with the NFL, but the NBA changed back in the early 80's. now entertainment value is priority. it is all about marketing now. and if everything gets better sports can anyone tell me of a better heavy weight boxer than muhammad ali?
