I just had that virus about a month ago, of course Best Buy wanted $200 to fix it until I told them to suck my balls. My sister sent me a few links that get rid of it, I think Spyware Doctor was one, and that worked.....for free.

And you expected Best Buy to do it for free?

I just used Combofix last night on a virus I've been trying everything to remove for a couple weeks. So far so good.

The only problem is, every 2 seconds, it pops up that the computer is infected and prompts you to "purchase the full product." Everything I've read online says this is a sham, and now I'm trying to get rid of it unsuccessfully. Everything I've downloaded to try to remove it will scan the PC, identify the virus, but then try to charge me to actually uninstall it.

Anyone know a good FREE download to remove the rogue antivirus virus?
Go to http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm and do the Full Scan. It will take hours to run but it does a pretty good job of cleaning junk off your machine.

Good Luck.

No, I didn't expect them to fix it for free, but not $200 :)

This is true. I always make a backup of my precious important stuff if using ComboFix.

I had the same virus on my government computer about a month ago. The problem is, I am not authorized to download anything onto my comp. After a few days of mot being able to open any programs (my antivirus included), it fizzled out and I removed it.

Booting into Safe Mode (with networking) usually allows the programs to run if they are being blocked by the virus in normal modes.
