Let me first start by saying that I hate when people create self-important (self being an online screen name/avatar) threads, but ironman has called out the big guns, so it is time to pull out mine.

I spoke on another thread of the mysticism and abracadabra shit -- I mean creepy stuff, man, that goes way beyond the reverse psychology that I invented in this rivalry -- I did to stop UNC from making it championship No. 5 in 2008 against the Kansas Jayhawks. I start speaking to wil-o'-the wisps and Mephistopheles during potential Carolina runs. And it, from time to time, leads to perfection. 40 to 12. I've also spoke of the time I patted Grievis Vasquez on the back on my television screen each time he scored in a 2009 win over UNC, yelling "Get 'em, buddy" as he sliced Tyler Hansbrough's heart out and I continued to percuss his four-inch frame. I am a sick, sick person.

Go Duke.

I am temporarily leaving the Huddle, effective immediately, in order to stop any big plans iron might have to bring Duke down. I will re-post sometime Sunday if all goes to plan.

Yes! Them and the $$$$ at CBS. Wonder if the Dukeys are aware that most tune in to see if they get the're butts kicked?
Not a good thing for the tourney or the NCAA.

It is a perfectly good thing for the tourney and the NCAA. There's no discount for the intent of the fan. They are money in the bank and the reason doesn't really matter.

Yes! Roy Williams is in on the HEX!
Williams favors Duke to win national title
By DAVE SKRETTA (AP) – 1 day ago
NEW YORK — North Carolina coach Roy Williams is predicting Duke to bring a second straight national championship to Tobacco Road.
The Tar Heels won the title last season, but struggled to a 16-16 record and failed to make the NCAA tournament this year. They play Rhode Island on Tuesday night in the NIT semifinals.
Williams said there was "no question" in his mind that top-seeded Duke should be the favorite when it faces West Virginia in the Final Four on Saturday. The winner will play Michigan State or Butler for the championship on Monday.
Williams said his next favorite would be West Virginia, adding coach Bob Huggins would probably shed his gruff exterior and "cry just as much as Roy Williams did" if he wins his first national championship.

I think all college basketball fans know this. Good work detective.
And how is it any worse for college basketball? Most tune into the NBA to see the Lakers lose (a bit of a stretch) or for the NFL to see the Cowboys lose or to NCAAF to see OSU, Tebow, USC lose.
God if the Yankees stopped playing baseball no one would watch anymore because most people just want to see them get stomped.

Did NOT say it was any worse. Just an observaton. Excuse me for a reply you found worthless. Seems I'm not alone. Yours is no better; no worse.

Okay then explain how it's 'not a good thing for the tourney or the NCAA'. Someone already pointed out how ratings aren't discounted because of the viewer's intent to watch, and I mentioned how there are teams in every sport that 'most (fans) tune in to see if they get the're butts kicked' -- you going to address any of that or just ramble off?

I'm not accusing your observaton[sic] of being worthless - just pointing out how your thinking could be flawed and seeing if you had any explanation. But instead you just bitched.

I'm repyling to one who makes a point of typo errors. Silly! And yes I shall ramble off; because my reply needed no explanation.

So, it looks like rec has stuck to his word and stayed away all week. I'm sure he's going to be elated tomorrow night around 11 PM when Duke has officially made its way to the national title game, which they will also win quite easily.

After the title run is complete, K will have won his fourth national title, which I believe will tie him with Adolph Rupp. Only John Wooden would have more coaching titles. As much as I hate K, it would be hard to deny his greatness after such an accomplishment.

Also, after winning a title, I wonder if Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler will test the NBA waters. I would guess they'll just come back to school and go for the repeat. Can you imagine the madness in Durham if Duke, after trailing Carolina in national titles 5-3, was able to win back-to-back titles to even the count? Normally, I would say that I'm getting way ahead of myself, but since Duke is definitely winning this year's title, I might as well start looking ahead to next season. Singler, Smith, the Plumlees, Dawkins, Curry, Irving, and others will just be too much for the rest of the country to overcome.

If you're reading this, rec, enjoy the game tonight. I know I won't.

I would like to congratulate Duke on tonight's win. I won't be near a computer later tonight so I just wanted to extend my happiness that they were able to get over the hump. I'm not sure if this team can be beat if they play like they will tonight. We could be looking at the first undefeated season since Indiana with the great players returning as well as the incoming freshman and to complete it with a dominating defense of the national championship would be truly great for the sport. Good luck Monday night, although I doubt they will need it.

All this psychology stuff is kind of absurd. It's just a game, is it not? Boys not yet quite men shooting spheres into a hoop; kind of like a YMCA game but televised. Let's not blow this out of proportion.

Besides, as I've said before, the only thing Duke has a chance of winning tonight is a congratulatory award for finishing first place in the Gus Macker Region.

The Blue Devils and their joke assistant coaching staff get pummeled tonight. Hey, Chrissy, at least you can spend easter back home in Chicago.

KobeStopper,

Apparently we're not allowed to have any fun around here? It's not like we all believe that what we post on this message board truly has any bearing on the actual game. Talking a little trash and joking around, and maybe even acting like we can somehow jinx a team with reverse psychology, is just part of hanging out on here. Take it easy.

You don't have to worry about ol' KobeStopper anymore. If it hasn't been obvious by now, I am KobeStopper. Desperate circumstances call for desperate times. I told you I was pulling out the big guns, iron. I was even able to get you to agree with my reverse psychology on one thread. That was priceless;)

So I created an account in the name of an old Laker friend, Ruben Patterson, and trashed Duke (a very, very hard thing to do) all week in honor of Coach K and my love for the Duke Blue Devils. How ya doin', Ruben? Wherever you are, thanks for helping me and -- more importantly -- Duke out. It was a fun week.

I am demonic when it comes to fandom. :)

LOL. I honestly was a bit suspicious after I called KobeStopper a Duke fan on one of the threads this week, he didn't dispute it, and then was trashing Duke everywhere else. I didn't really believe it was you, though, rec.

Hopefully this comes back to bite you in the ass on Monday. :)
