Harding won the BMAC in both 7th and 8th grade.

BTW, Harding didn't leave...the other schools got together behind Harding's back, dissolved the BMAC and formed a new league.

Harding leaving the BMAC is a DESPERATE attempt to get kids into Harding. We ALL know how it works. They have to transfer in 8th grade to be eligible. What happened with Big Red and IC playing 8th grade this past year? Those times that we beat you through the 7th and 8th grade years was great... Kids against kids. Pure football. But then they become freshmen... "open enrollment" all the sudden lured in HOW MANY kids? They lost to lowly IC?!?! I though we were crap? We are scum, we are sub-par, we were not worth picking us up for a game during a week we were BOTH free to schedule who we wish because it would REALLY look bad for Big Red to get beat by IC twice in one season... "Open enrollement" might not attract the players Big Red needs.

Here is a thought... Steubenville has the best of EVERYTHING in this area. Hands down, can't despute it because their fans declair it... Prove it... 3 years is ALL I ask. I'm sure Big Red could spare hat with their immaculate record. Many B8 teams could use an opponet, so actively seek them, get rid of your open enrollment touchdowns, and lets see how you do... Make me eat my words...

I'm going to try and explain this in a way that will be easy for you to understand, and to do that I'm going to use myself as an example.

When I left Harding Middle School, I was about 5'10" weighing about 130 lbs. Somewhat tall and very skinny! The only time we had to lift was at the start of the season during the conditioning portion of the season. At that time I was bench pressing around 150 lbs. Somewhat average for my height and weight, wouldn't you agree?
Once I got to high school, every semester I had at least one official weight training class on my schedule. If I had a study hall, you might as well count that as a weight training class. When I graduated from Big Red, I was 6'2" and weighed about 165 lbs (I wrestled at the 167 lb weight class in college). Still tall and still very skinny, BUT I was bench pressing over 300lbs! Only 4 inches taller and 37 lbs heavier, but over 150 lb increase in lifting. I'd say that's pretty impressive.
I wasn't even a "premiere" athlete at Big Red, those guys spent even more time in the weight room and was a great deal stronger than I. The only reason I believe I did so well in wrestling isn't because I was this outstanding, talented wrestler; ask anyone that has ever watched me wrestle; I won the majority of my matches because of endurance and strength, but because of the conditioning and lifting program I participated in as a Big Red football player!
The conditioning and work put forth by the Big Red football players for Big Red Football is second to none and for you to try and draw a correlation between what the Jr. high kids did to what they did in high schools only adds to the already overwhelming evidence of your ignorance!

Nobody went to the Mods and said anything. I read every post made in this forum. I did it at my own discretion, not b/c anyone else said anything.

After reading the recent post I get the feeling that Big Red nation is trying to convince everyone that the "Open Enrollment" players have had nothing to do with the success of the program in recent years. It's all because of coaching and hard work and not the talented payers they "Open Enroll".

As far as the other sports go I think everyone would agree that most athletes specialize in a single sport these days (not all athletes). Alot of schools have a specific sport that they seem to excel at which seems to feed the younger athletes to that sport. For Big Red it's the football program. So I do believe that Big Red would still have a good program with out "Open Enrollment" you will not convince me that these players have not contributed to the recent success.

I think you're reading into these post what you want. I don't think anyone would say that the open enrollment athletes had zero impact. The main point Big Red fans are trying to make is this, and you already eluded to this is, that Big Red was good before Open Enrollment and Big Red would still be good if we didn't have Open Enrollment. To say that without Open Enrollment Big Red would be, "mediocre...just the same as the "sub par" teams in the area", is just plain ignorance.

1991 graduate and I grew up in Shaker Heights and yes I played football.Your comment about a St.Ignatius graduate not bashing other communities because of a few bad posters must mean that you also are saying that St.Ignatius grads have more class than the Big Red posters on here because that is all I read on here from your posters.I must say that I don't read much bashing towards other schools on this site from the catholic school you have in your community so it must mean that a catholic education will raise your child to be a better person and people will look at them as a more respectful person.

The sad part is that I have cheered for your team when you are playing someone good in the playoffs and your fans don't start getting carried away with how good you really are.

We made the state finals three times in the 1980's without open enrollment. We could do it again if we had to.

Please take note of the word "entire". Essentially what that means is that my friends being intelligent individuals wouldn't say...I was going to place several of your quotes here, but I see that goChiefs has already edited your posts. Basically, they wouldn't bash all of Steubenville, just because I or even a few people from Steubenville said something they may not agree with. Actually two of them are huge high school sports fans,(mostly wrestling) and they have a huge amount of respect for Big Red and they are well aware of the small amount of obnoxious fans out there. One thing I try not to do is make generalizations; maybe you should try it.

Here's a question for you; what percentage of total Big Red poster do you see bashing entire communities? Keep in mind that the number of actual Big Red posters on any of these boards is quite large and quite possibly out number any other high school, with the exception of probably Massillon. I can honestly only think of 3 or 4 posters that "support" Big Red that openly bash other communities and teams, one of which never attended Big Red!

Big Red didn't invent Open Enrollment, and certainly OE has nothing on what private schools have been doing for over a century. The local schools are just upset that they can't attact OE students as well as Big Red.

If the shoe was on the other foot, then all we would hear is how everyone wants to come to their school for the great education.

Being all the way up here in Cleveland, I'm not as close to the program as I'd like, but knowing the tradition of Big Red and how Reno and Co. prepares for each season I am confident that Big Red has the potential to make it all the way to the finals and win it! Yes I did graduate high school and since you know so much about Iggy then you know that I also graduated college because I think our rate of college bound students after high school graduation is around 100%.

I have never said that all Big Red posters are jerks but the ones that run their mouth with no knowledge sure make up for the few good fans on here.Maybe some of them need to learn from snyds113 as he seems to show some class and still get his point across without trying to degrade other schools from your area or try and compare Big Red to schools out of their league.

You can cheer for your team and be proud of their tradition and still not act like a jerk because that is what shows class and I do think that Reno and his staff do a good job of preparing for the season as anyone could ask for but I am sure he doesn't go around trying to compare his team with teams like Iggy,Xavier,Solon or any other bigger school that is superior to most in the state.Their is nothing wrong with being proud of your team but do it with some class.

How many players do you send to the next level and beyond?
You may be considered a top team in your division but you are not considered an elite team in the state and there is nothing wrong with that once you accept the truth.

I have always said that the Red is a good team and sometimes root for them but they are not in the same league as some of the elite teams of the state.
