Why do ACC schools fans, chant "ACC!" at the end of games they have won, in the ACC-Big 10 challenge?reclegend22 wrote: I agree with the premise. It doesn't make sense to root for a team that you hate all year long just because of a league association. You think Isiah Thomas was rooting for Michael Jordan in the '91 Finals because of their Eastern Conference brotherhood? Or vice versa the previous years. Um, no.
For me, however, I really only despise North Carolina in the ACC. Maryland fans hate Duke; I don't hate Maryland. I hate certain players and fans from other schools (Maryland's fans are insufferable, but I let it pass because they try so hard to be our UNC), but only Carolina boils to the point that I'll follow them through the NIT to watch them lose (which I have done this March, even as my team extends its journey into the real Dance). When Deron Washington played for Va Tech, I hoped the team bus collided with the bus BC's Sean Marshall was riding on. Now that they're all gone, I'll back them in the Dance. NC State has been losing for too long to even notice its fan-base and Wake hasn't reached a Final Four since '60. And schools like Miami are just to new to the conference to have a tremendous built-in hatred for them.
I wanted Grievis Vasquez to make the Final Four this year, and was disappointed when they lost. Had it been Maryland-Butler, however, I'm going with Butler the whole way.
And add OSU to my list of schools I have despised since I was seven.
