I was just looking through some of the current NBA greats career/season stats. Some of their rookie stats are very impressive. A lot of other guys had really nice rookie seasons (Roy, Rose, Wade, etc), but these are the guys that scored 20+.

Shaq: 37.9Mins .562FG% 3.50Blks 13.8Rbs 1.9Ast 23.4Pts
LBJ: 39.5Mins .417FG% 1.60Stl 5.5Rbs 5.9Ast 20.9Pts
Melo: 36.5Mins .426FG% 1.20Stl 6.0Rbs 2.8Ast 21.0Pts
Tyreke: 37.3Mins .461FG% 5.2Rbs 1.45Stl 5.6Ast 20.3Pts
Duncan: 39.1Mins .549FG% 2.50Blks 11.9Rbs 2.7Ast 21.1Pts
Durant: 34.6Mins .430FG% 1.00Stl 0.90Blk 4.4Rbs 2.4Ast 20.3Pts

That's pretty much what I got from this. Along with I wish so fucking bad that I could have watched Shaq as a rookie at the age I am now. I would have appriciated him so much more. I also kind of forget how close Melo was to LBJ in terms of stats for ROY.

Can I see the PER MINUTE numbers? I will need to see those before I decide how good they are.

If Bron wasn't Bron, then the ROY would have been Melo's IMO. But there was just sooooooo much hype for Bron(deservedly so), that there would have been a riot if he didn't win it.

Either guy was deserving of it though, so I'm OK with it.

I respectfully disagree.

It was close but what put Lebron over was the fact he averaged 3 more Assists per game. Other than that the numbers are pretty similar

Yep, it was really LeBron's award to lose because he had so much hype. He got credit for being straight from high school too--and rightfully so. And the assists made a difference because it meant that LeBron was one of the 3 rookies EVER to average 20, 5 and 5. That's why they made a shoe called the LeBron 20-5-5. That's also why Evans is the ROY this year, he's going to be the 4th player to do it. He's going to be a great one.

Yes he is^ In fact, I label him as "mini LeBron" simply for the fact that he does everything. He's a bit shorter than LeBron, but he's built like him and loves to take it strong to the basket.

These two videos sum up Shaq in his early NBA career:

No one was strong enough to stop him.

I think people give Allen Iverson credit for his talent, because I certainly do.. However, that's where it stops.

He's not a team player and it seems like he's proving time and time again that he's kind of stupid as well.

He'll go down as a 1st ballot hall of famer, but he only made 1 Finals in his career and never was really successful in the playoffs (team wise)

AI gets too much shit for not being a team player without people realizing that he never got to play with anyone good when he was good.

I know exactly how great Eric Snow is. Only HOFer's bank a layup off the backboard and miss the rim entirely.

This is true, but when did his reputation as being selfish begin to prevent his being acquired by "good" teams? There were a lot of teams that were good/decent that considered taking AI but passed. There was a line in the sand somewhere when the rest of the league decided he wasn't going to be worth a flyer based on his rep as a selfish player.

I'm guessing the "Practice" incident was probably the last nail in his coffin and not the first on this issue.

This is very simple. He got old. A lot of "contenders" didn't need him--he got picked up by a team that went to the ECF 6 straight years, so someone good did pick him up. I don't think it was about him being selfish, it was about him being too old to spend the money on.

If Allen Iverson was white, I doubt people would have a problem with him as being "selfish".
