I've read a lot of posts on different boards from people saying how they think Buford will be gone after this because of the "money talks" reasons and such. So I decided to look at some mock drafts to see where he is projected to get drafted. Here's the thing, I haven't found one draft site that even has him listed in either round. So am I missing something here? Or is it just that no one else did any research before saying he is good as gone? Because from the draft sites I've seen, it looks like Buford will indeed be back here next year.

Or he could test the water, not hire an agent, so he could return to OSU if things don't look right.

He would get drafted. Id put him early to mid second round, but he has the chance with some good workouts to move into the first.
I doubt he goes though. Just didnt improve enough from last year to warrant NBA teams to draft him.

He'll be back and needs at least one more year, if not two. Still needs to refine some weak areas, driving to hoop and mainly his strength.

It depends how much Buford wants to get paid. If he leaves after this year, he is a second round pick in my opinion. Stays one more year, he can be looking at a mid first rounder, which means much more cash.

He would get drafted in the 2nd round easily but with a little more work he is 1st round material. I don't think he risks his career on a 2nd round non guaranteed contract when he can come back for another year, work on his game and then be selected in the 1st round.
I'd like to see him bulk up a bit and get stronger. He has the frame to add some weight.
He should come back but I also thought Cook should come back.

The fact that he had better numbers than Daquan Cook is why some have suggested he COULD get drafted late in the first round.

Cook was already well built and showed flashes of greatness the first half of his freshman year. He was drafted strictly off potential, so as you said maybe that is why people feel Buford can do the same.september63 wrote: The fact that he had better numbers than Daquan Cook is why some have suggested he COULD get drafted late in the first round.

Cook was at least on these mock draft lists during the season. The point is that right now Buford isn't even being sniffed by the scouts.

Oh yes he is getting looked at by scouts. Hell, he was probably getting looked at last year.namod65 wrote: Cook was at least on these mock draft lists during the season. The point is that right now Buford isn't even being sniffed by the scouts.
Mock drafts are not done by scouts.

Yes. I didnt notice that. Interesting sidenote in that mock draft. Both Grievis Vasquez and Sherron Collins are 2nd round selections.

Cook was drafted not because of numbers but because of his ability to shoot. He was drafted to be a role player--a set shooter. What role does Buford fall into? He won't get as much hype as Cook unless he stays another year and really dazzles people. As of now, there is no reason for anyone to believe he'd ever see the floor in the NBA.

Another interesting side note from that 2011 draft: Neither Jared Sullinger or DeShaun Thomas are even listed on it. I know a lot of people say that Thomas will be a one-and-done guy, but I keep saying that the NBA isn't looking for a 6-6 PF/SF. He's a bit undersized for his position at the NBA level as well as Sullinger is for a C. I think both of them will be at OSU for multiple years.

^ Nbadraft.net has Sullinger and Buford as lottery picks (or maybe just outside of the lottery?) for their recently updated 2011 mock.
They also have Diebler going in the mid-2nd round next year, which was shocking to me.

IMO,he needs another year to add strength to not only compete in the NBA,but to maintain his health and stamina for a 80+ game scehdule...of course,I'm hoping he stays for selfish reasons too--what a core he,Diebler,Lauderdale & Lighty will be for this incoming class to grow around.

He is listed as a mid-late first rounder....... For next seasons draft.

buford definately isn't strong enough for the NBA. he needs to put some quality muscle on his pretty thin frame. that and i think he makes way to many stupid mistakes. at least one more year for him IMO...

Too many mistakes? Such as? The only issue I have with Buford at times, not often, is shot selection. The other issue is his consistancy. He tends to disappear through long stretches of a game. He is streaky. He'll light it up for 10 straight...then go 10 min without a score. But as far as mistakes...he really doesn't make many IMO and has been a pleasant surprise defensively this year.Thunder70 wrote: buford definately isn't strong enough for the NBA. he needs to put some quality muscle on his pretty thin frame. that and i think he makes way to many stupid mistakes. at least one more year for him IMO...
1. Stength
2. Needs to develop a go to move. One that will get him to the rim/get by a the defender and learn to finish at the rim consistantly. Strength will help this area.
3. Consistant play
Buford is one of the sweetest strokes in the game, can flat out shoot. I have NO question he'll be in the NBA. But he, at the very least, needs another year...and probably 2yrs. His time to shine is coming as Turner will be leaving. He will need to step up his game starting next year.

I don't see Buford surviving the NBA any longer than 3 seasons.
