I have to wonder what Iowa is doing?

McCaffery isn't even as highly touted as Lickliter was...is this really going to push Iowa back to where they were?

Hope Lavin doesn't go with the St. Johns job...I luv him on TV!

Azu..I agree. Although, the guy is a pretty solid coach. But certainly not any kind of big name or anything. Why not flash some $$ at Butler Stevens?
Who knows..but of ahead scratcher.

They must be confident McCaffery can recruit better. I personally think they would have been much better off going after a proven name under the radar. Rick Majerus I think is someone who is going to get another big job really soon.

Then again, Majerus won't be leaving SLU for 2 more years. He's going to make a serious run there in 2011 and 2012, and then probably bolt.

Majerus is a beast. I think he stays at least 2, and maybe 3 years, to see that massive freshman class + redshirts from last year graduate.

He already has Florida ties, so I think he will be fine. He did piss off alot of people in West Virginia by doing this. It is looked at that he turned his back on his hometown, considering that he went to high school about 30 miles from Marshall.

USC's old coach, and current New Orleans Hornets' assistant Tim Floyd has accepted the job at UTEP, despite the allegations surrounding the recruitment of OJ Mayo.

Tim Floyd may be the most overrated coach in all of basketball.

I really did like Lavin on TV, but this seems like a good fit for him.

Although with the caliber of coaches they were interested in, maybe it's not as good of a job as one would think.

I would like to think Lavin's TV presence can only help with his recruiting. He covered a lot of games so his face has been out there... add this to the fact that he was a decent analyst and didn't say that many stupid things, and that he wasn't too bad at UCLA either, I think it's a good say for SJU to go.

Seth Davis today reiterated his belief that Tubby is headed to Oregon:
Strong and getting stronger. I've said for weeks he was headed to Eugene RT @bushhogky: Any chance Tubby NOT at Minn. Next year.

Along with one of the biggest cheaters as well. I always viewed he and Cal as one in the same. Amazing someone would hire this guy, this soon or at all.

Tubby Smith is working on a contract extension at Minnesota -- not looking for a new job.

Rumors this week suggested Oregon would make a big-dollar offer to make Smith the successor to the recently fired Ernie Kent. Smith was in Indianapolis on Thursday during Final Four events and he says there was "nothing to talk about" in regards to Oregon.

He says he's so happy at Minnesota that he's working on a contract extension.

Smith just finished his second season with Minnesota, leading the Gophers to their second straight NCAA tourney appearance. Before taking the Minnesota job, Smith won a national championship at Kentucky.

Two weeks ago, Smith was reportedly linked to the Auburn job but the Tigers hired Tony Barbee.

This does not surprise me, I think at this point it's just par for the course that when a major conference opening happens Tubby gets mentioned because there's "no way he could be happen in frozen Minnesota." From what I hear, he likes the city, the people, and the job enough to stay long-term, and the practice facility promised to him is close to being official.

Sounds like BC is hiring Cornell's Steve Donahue. Could be a good move.
