What does the "health care reform" mean to me?

Absolutely nothing because I've yet to see it or anything like it.

I HAVE seen another government expansion set in place, but we're all old enough on this forum to discern that it doesn't qualify for the term "reform".

When I DO see some actual reform set to law, I'll try and remember to look this thread up. I might be senile by then, though.

Inflation is a tax. That will be here shortly and will make letting the Bush tax cuts expire look like a joke.

There have been plenty of tax raises. Just because they aren't taking more money out of your paycheck doesn't mean they haven't increased taxes. Anyone go to the tanning bed? Millions of Americans do. 10% tax for that. Anyone smoke, drink, like to drink soft drinks, etc. They have a multitude of ways to increase taxes without looking like they are taking more money away from your take home pay. Ultimately we will all pay for it.

Not at all. The massive amount of deficit spending will (not might, will) lead to a very high rate of inflation as the economy begins to otherwise improve.

No. Even simple economics says that a raise in inflation has the same effect on spending/consumption/savings as a raise in taxes.

And for the record, I don't know if the health care reform will be the direct cause of inflation, I was only pointing out inflation has essentially the same effects as a tax raise. There's a lot of different factors that play into a raise of inflation.

Our company's health insurance is up for renewel April 1st. It went up 10%. Can't wait to see what the next few years bring. :)

Assuming this bill goes fully into effect -- you are going to see premiums increase quite a bit, and other similar costs incurred by companies. Those costs WILL BE PASSED ALONG TO CONSUMERS ALL OR IN PART.

That is nothing more than a de facto tax increase. And yes, it's also inflationary.

Strange. The only talk I have heard is that the Bush tax cuts for those making over $200k single /$250K family are the ones that will be eliminated. All other incomes below that get to keep the tax cuts. More lies from the Far Right ?? It would surely be keeping with their character. Politics as usual.

They conveniently leave that out. By saying that a tax cut is going to expire they prey on that lowest common denominator out there who doesn't know the truth. Just like they seek out the lowest common denominator with the "fear" message.

We have been hearing the same old, same old about inflation since the day after Obama was elected. Actually we probably have been hearing it since he was nominated. To date, I don't believe these prophecies have come to pass. Neither have all the stories about Obama taking away everyones guns. It's just the politics of fear. The simple-minded buy it lock, stock and barrel and the Republicans know it and count on it to perpetuate their agenda.

Ahh, the first stimulus package. Yes, that was Bush. Then came TARP at the end of 08, and then Obama's 2nd stimulus at the start of 09.
