I was looking through craigslist today for a car and came across a 2003 chevy tahoe for 3750. I was shocked by this deal, as they description seemed pretty flawless. It should be at least 10 grand. I email the guy telling him i am interested and followed up the first email asking for the VIN number so i can get a history report. I got this reply back to both messages...

now, seems like a scam to me, thoughts? the vehicle is listed as in columbus, but the email says its in alaska and will be shipped?

Inquire as to how he manages to ship something that far without incurring a significant cost and also insist that he provide the VIN.

he could have just gave you the VIN number like you requested. instead it is fishy you get the same reply to 2 emails. probably a scam.

Craigslist is full of these scams. Look on there and you will find a bunch of underpriced cars. They are all the same thing.

you will be asked to send check or money order and then he will ship truck to you and you will never see it.

Total scam, he will do something like ask for payment before he ships the car, etc......

email him a virus back!

No problem! My favorite is when I list something on CL to sell, then meet up with the person, and they ALWAYS say: "well, I only brought (insert dollar amount here)." Did you read the ad???????

I always act like a sucker. Just as the scam artist thinks I took the bait, I tell him to go fuck himself.

If he's in the military they will incur the cost to transport the vehicle for someone who get's reassigned. The army paid my grandfather once to drive some guy's car across the country who was in the military.

But yeah, I'd email him back asking him for the VIN again, and if he refuses, then 'd get on CL and mark the ad as spam.

I got the same kind of response on a 2003 Jeep Cherokee that was listed at 2,900.00 about a week ago.

The lady said she won it in a divorce though and the Jeep was with her in New York right now.

They then ask for you to purchase vehicle unseen and have it shipped to your location.

I just bought it, sorry UA, you snooze you lose.

It says right at the top of the page on the CL Auto listings that shipping cars is ialways a scam in bold letters. I guess if they can identify that goes on, why can't they stop those posts from appearing?

a friend at work was looking for a new van. found one in montana and one in south dakota. same back story, same van, same price = scam

The add didn't say anything about shipping. That was only in the email.

Yeah you are right. I just looked at the CL cars listing and it says in big blue letters..."offers to ship cars are 100% fraudulent," So I guess CL is aware it goes on, Policing it might be difficult,

DO NOT BUY. A coworker of mine has a son who is currently working with the FBI to track down the thousands of dollars they wired to have the car shipped and covered by insurance. It was a chevy Tohoe. They kept asking for more money each day and this guy just kept sending what they asked for.
