I'd like to say that I like USMCdevil05. I might not agree with everything he says, but he's alright in might book. Now, I tell you that to tell you this... girevik just received 100 cool points for that post. It was going to be 95 point but the line concerning the cussing post got him 5 bonus points!
Remember though... things go in cycles.
ps: Bitter... for the last time: there's tOSU (the Ohio State University) and then toOSU (the other OSU; Oklahoma State University). To call Okie State the REAL OSU does a real disservice to both Ohio State AND Oregon State (which is pOSU; pacific OSU). All three are OSU's. It just so happens that only one of them has been trademarked with the word 'the' in front of it.
With all this excitement, we've lost some things. The first being the unrealistic statement that tOSU will never finish above 8th place. Will they next year? According to the paperwork, maybe not. But that eliminates the human heart and desire from the equation. Could they in two, three or even four years? Don't know. But to say undoubtedly that they won't, to me, is unreasonable.
Oh yeah, btw... I CERTAINLY don't mind your posting on this thread, girevik. As if I could stop you! As a matter of fact, I enjoy it. And I'll say this as well: not once did I ever accuse Tom Brands as having two recruiting classes. To me, the argument ended when the kids paid their time. The University said no, they said yes and accepted their punishment. Conversation over.

Bitter, I will thank you kindly to stop posting well thought out, reasonable responses. I need condescending, inflammatory, and if at all possible, rude and ignorant responses to keep me going. Look, for me personally, one main reason that tOSU fans have not "warmed" to Mr. Brands is that on many occasions, he has conducted himself while coaching and wrestling in a less than admirable fashion. He is to me similar to Metcalf in his robotic, no-social-skills style personality. Iowa is better than tOSU. Brands thus far is a better coach than Ryan. That being said, I like Ryan the man better than Brands the man. I would rather my child wrestle for Ryan.

I have meet Coach Brands many times and have seen another side of the guy most people will never see. He is some what robotic but he is a down to earth guy too. He is just very passionate and hard working. I love his style of in your face never say die and never quit wrestling.snugglyhippo wrote: Bitter, I will thank you kindly to stop posting well thought out, reasonable responses. Cruiser,
I totally agree with the they paid there due and time thing. I even said that who cares if they brought there other recruiting class with them. It's like you said, they waited a year and served their punishment. Sorry about the cursing, I lose my head sometimes when it's about my buckeyes! lol!

Cruiser and girevek both seem like very intelligent people having a chess match of opinion. Is there a winner yet?

I am as big a Buckeye fan you will find but OSU is a way off from winning a national title. Tom Ryan has done a fantastic job in his short time so far. That said though he has opened up lines Russ and crew couldn't, but too many big named Ohio wrestlers are still looking past OSU and heading elsewhere. If the Buckeyes can keep the big names home, they don't need alot of help from elsewhere but right now they are still missing out.

Saying "I'm pretty sure their best years are behind them" and saying they will never finish higher than 8th are two completely different things. That would mean they never finished higher than 8th with Tom Ryan as their head coach, that's not true.cruiser_96 wrote: The first being the unrealistic statement that tOSU will never finish above 8th place.
I'll go throught the thread and read it again when I have more time, but I don't think I said they will never finish higher than 8th.

By "best days are behind them", maybe he meant the run of the last three years? I think a three year run of 2nd, 2nd and 8th with seven finalists and a three individual titles is a pretty incredible run...one that Buckeye fans have never seen before. Is it that much of a stretch to say it won't happen again under Coach Ryan? There are a lot of great coaches and a lot of great teams that have never had a run like that. I personally don't see Ohio State winning a National title any time in the foreseeable future, and I don't see them making another run like this one with their current line-up. So, I can see where he's coming from.

I'm not hating. I was under the impression that because Russ wasn't gathering recruits for him anymore that the Buckeyes wouldn't see beyond 8th place from this point forward. That's what I read and to what I responded.
As for the future: Again, I don't think next year is the answer, but I am very excited to see both Steibers, Garcia and Demas in the scarlet and gray. Paddock, Heflin, C. Palmer and Nemec/Jameson certainly get me going as well. I'm sure Magrum and Hiles can join in the fun as well. I'm sure there is someone else in the line-up I'm missing with that list but I'm old...er.
I think another exciting thing will be an unknown rising up. I've been in the room and seen some kids doing amazing things with/against/to some of the above names. It is not as clear cut as I sometimes pretend it to be.
Wait 'til next year!

Tom Ryan is and has built ties with the Ohio wrestling community, also a class act and has changed the level of expectations @ tOSU
Also, it's been 4 top 10 team finishes (10th, 2nd, 2nd, 8th) w/ 15 individual AA finishes

Tom Ryan has had great success here, but is he the glass slipper that fell off Ohio State's sole?(soul)
Someone mentioned Chris Phillips to Ohio State, someone else to NW...No one has mentioned Michigan yet?
Maybe all is not what it seems?
girevik offered logical and sensible statements to the deserving and likewise non-sensensical statements to the same.
As always and thankfully, Bitter is non-biased and a realist.
I honestly don't see Ohio State near the top for some time.
Although if I knew anything...I'd be rich.
The diatribe has been entertaining though.
