Andy Marte leads the Tribe in at bats (28) one more than Choo. He is batting .286 with 2 HRS, 3 doubles, 8 RBI's and an OPS of .989. Many have written him off...but there is a reason why he once was considered a top prospect. Derek Shelton is gone...and Marte is flourishing under Nunnaly's tutelage.

Maybe when the season starts and they win a few games people might start talking tribe. For now it's the Cavs and March Madness.

I am glad Marte is doing better. Pretty sad that it really was the coaching. At least that is the way it appears.

Pretty hard to get excited whenever I check the box scores and I see that Giminez is still on this roster.

any step in the right direction is good for marte, but he's in a hot streak and still only hitting .286

He must have photos of Shapiro... batting .100

Meanwhile Wes Hodges is sent back to the minor league camp (batting average .417 with 4 doubles and a HR in 24 AB's) victimized by "roster mangement"....the famous policy that once sent a a .400 hitting Ben Francisco back to the minors so that we could keep journeymen Michaels and Delucci.....

I'm not sure exactly how making a team out of spring training affects free agency/arbitration/how long you have 'rights' to a player....but it seems to me that making 'roster management' the top priorty, you hamstring the team in getting out of the gate fast. You stifle the development and confidence of young players who are ready for the bigs, just so you can keep financial control. Since Shapiro split up 'the old team', has the Tribe ever had a great April? Maybe it's because they start the season without thebest team being on the field.

Be nice to see Marte pan out.

Meanwhile I see in Terry Pluto's morning piece that good old "reliable" Russell Branyan supposedly isn't even working out with the team. Really pisses me off when they put these reclamation projects on the roster while younger talent wastes away in the minors.

I don't know why they haven't just put Marte somewhere and said "here, the job is yours." It seems like the Indians are perpetually jerking their young guys around. They did the same with Brandon Phillips. At a certain point, you just gotta throw the guy out there, let him make some mistakes and hope that he gets better. There's no reason not to, especially when you are a bad team (last year) and are probably going to be bad again this year

This is the Florida Marlins method. Suck, suck, around .500, above .500, World Series contender then disband the team and repeat. The Indians constantly jerk their players around and platoon them. I read they might do that with Valbuena. Rather then coach him to hit better than .200 against lefties their strategy is to give a washed up guy like Grudzilanek a chance to compete for half of the starts.

The Indians always have a good farm team but by the time the players get to the majors they are 26 or 27 and essentially AAAA players (Garko, Fransisco) because they have dominated triple A for so many years but haven't gotten a chance at growing and improving in the majors.

The Indians constantly have done this and was really bad while Wedge was there in wasting away talent that tore up in spring training and the minor leagues and then sent them away to Akron to work on their game. If you are batting .400 and play solid defense then what the hell do you need to work on. A perfect example is Jordan Brown who has done everything right except been given a chance at the majors and by the time he gets his chance, the Indians will be looking at putting a 20 year old who has a "big upside" instead of bringing up that guy whos potential was already there.

I haven't followed much baseball since I'm out of fantasy league due to school and life filling the void. The great thing about the Central is there is always a chance for any team to win it. I hope the Indians can make some noise and Marte can be a big part of it.

Marte had a big grand slam recently..

Would definitely be nice to see him develop. I'd take .286 from him in a heart beat.

Choo will get you .300/25/90+/ and 20+ stolen bases..

Like I said, the offense will be fine, but I'm worried about pitching.

Tells you how much of a bust he's been when .286 is considered "flourishing".
