The sad part of all this is that the head of the local naacp branch that is pushing for him to resign has been convicted of crimes against other black people including assault and has used the N word during a incident where he threatened another black man.
Hell Jessie Jackson even wanted to cut Mr.Obamas nuts off with a butter knife and nothing happened to him but i guess it is different if said by another black man.

While not the most, there are plenty of sad parts to this.

But, because I'm pretty unfamiliar with the NAACP, which branch is asking him to resign/who is the branch head in question?

Not to nitpick, but Jackson has never been elected to anything. He's just a media whore.

To the point, for the sake of his town, the mayor would be wise to step down. I really don't care what he said in private about the piece of shit that killed his granddaughter. I know it is much kinder than what I would have been saying. And since when did saying a racial slur in the heat of an emotional moment become more of an issue than the murder of a human being?

No need to step down, he was elected, he did nothing illegal. When election time comes around they will have a chance to get rid of him.

Ray Nagin did not step down and their was no media outrage for him to do so when he declared New Orleans needed to be rebuilt as a "chocolate city".

Sounds like some good investigating reporting. Can't wait to see it on Fox news.[/i]

The guy is clearly an idiot for his use of these words but I agree with benole in that he shouldn't step down. The people got what they voted for and will have a chance to change that soon enough.

What exactly is a private meeting? Was it some type of Mayoral function that wasn't open to the public, or was this on his own time. I don't want to support any type of racism at all, but I think I would give the guy a pass as he was talking about the guy who murdered his grand daughter. I would be pretty emotional if that happened to me.
