The only thing that conflicts my all-Pittsburgh theme is I like Ohio State. I wasn't as big of an OSU fan as a kid, like I was Pittsburgh teams, but over time following the recruiting, going to games, Tressel going there, living in Columbus for awhile, that combination led me to root for them, too.
That and the fact that Pitt hasn't been relevant in college football for a couple decades. ;)

I think that native born Ohioans that overtly root for the Steelers should be removed from society.
Okay, the world is ending soon because we agree.

Putting them all down would be the right thing to do.
I'd like you to say that to my 73 year old grandfather who graduated highschool with Maz. You would get drilled.
My Dad was once a Caddie for the Maz one summer, true story.

Don't tell Mark May that! :D

Pitt was horrible during the 90s in football, they've been solid mostly over the past 10 years or so.

It's been awhile since they've played Ohio State in football, but I'd go for Pitt -- as they fall to Ohio State. :D

They met four years in a row from 1993-1996

Ohio State won 63-28, 27-3, 54-14 before surviving 72-0.

Look its real simple even for the mouth breathers of this group. I began liking the Steelers when I was 9....roughly when they were winning Super Bowls 3 and 4. I know I jumped on the bandwagon as a boy.....I just can't seem to find anywhere for me to jump off. I grew up in the Mahoning Valley...so...who was I supposed to like?

I live outside of Pittsburgh(Grew up in Ohio though and that's why I love all Cleveland's teams) but it seems to me that most are much more Penn State fans. But they generally root for Pitt too...

The topic starter brought up a VERY GOOD question. So good of a question that it makes me wonder why so few fans of Cleveland pro sports teams were on the College Basketball forum to talk about/cheer on the Cleveland State basketball team. Must just be easier to cheer for that huge, really successful college a couple hours down the road than those smaller, less athletically respected ones in your general backyard such as Cleveland State, Kent and Akron. SMH. SMH.

I didn't ask you guys about Duquesne, Robert Morris or Youngstown State, did I?

Well, no, but you're completely comparing apples to oranges, which is what amused me. For me personally, my father went to OSU and I went to Ohio U. I have legit connections to those two colleges, so I'm fans of them. I have no such connection to any other college. A lot of people either went to a college or have a close family member who did and, therefore, cheer for that school.

The average person here doesn't have that sort of tie to any pro team, so to compare the reason why a person likes a pro team to the reason they like a college team is pretty silly.

And really, the whole "fanhood/bandwagon" sort of argument is even more silly. If someone mentioned a "Browns Backers" group in Erie (no pro team; equal or closer distance to Cleveland compared to Pittsburgh; NOT in Ohio), Cleveland fans would be touting that as another example of how they have the greatest, most widespread fanbase of any pro franchise. But have fans of "THE ENEMY" situated in "their" turf and it's time to go all out to find some reason to say they're not "real" fans of that team. It's kind of funny. Sad, but funny.

Who are any of you to tell people they should or shouldn't be a fan of a team? And why the hell would you even care?
This.

(Exception: when a collection of people with GED's give me hell for rooting for my alma mater instead of Ohio State. Go fuck yourselves.)

I don't care who you root for in college, but I do think people should root for their home state teams.

Just my opinion
