Arizona didn't get shafted. They lost 9 Pac 10 games. The Pac 10 was no better than C-USA, A-10, CAA- MWC or MVC. One Pac 10 team was par for the course.
Carolina got in because they were Carolina
St. John's got in because of the market and they could play at MSG
How does Marshall, with 23 wins and Hassan Whiteside NOT get in yet Tulsa gets a 5-seed? Illinois State getting in, let alone over the likes of Virginia Commonwealth and Marshall is disheartening.
I also wish the NIT would really try to showcase teams who could be very good next year. St. John's was a good pick. Georgia and St. Louis would have been fabulous picks for that case. Why reward teams who really underachieved and have many players who won't be around next year? Connecticut comes to mind.
As a UConn fan, I was hoping they would have turned it down. They dont deserve to play in anything after how they played down the stretch. Dyson and Robinson looked like they were ready to go to Portsmouth for the draft. Wouldnt be suprised if they either lost in the 1st round or fight embarassment and win the whole thing. They dont have any young players outside of Majok that would gain anything from this tournament though.
