Everyone knows the legend that is Dave Schlabach and the Hiland Lady Hawks program. Another former Hawk will be coaching his girls team in the final 4 of D II. James (Jamie) Stutzman will lead his Miami Trace girls in Columbus this weekend. And to think, I used to live across from him in Berlin way back in the day.

Good luck to both programs.

Hiland is a breeding ground for coaching.

You lived in Berlin 300? Should have stayed, but I understand... no bowling alley in Berlin!

Is the Miami Trace coach any relation?

A school that doesn't play football or have a wrestling program had no shot at my family. Of course, not have any bowling alley really hurt them too!!:D

No relation there either.

yeah, but Hiland will be getting football pretty soon... They promised the IVC way back when....the Amish guy finally died...forget what the other reasons are. ;)

As for wrestling, don't think hiland ever promised that, but could be wrong. We just have to find that paper all that stuff was signed on!

Pariah, Jamie Stutz is the son of Dale Stutzman, longtime teacher/coach (8th grade) at Walnut Creek in the 60's & 70's then at the Hiland middle school for years and finally the JV coach for Perry Reese for many many years, maybe all 16 of Perry's not sure. Great person and loved the game big time.

Dale was my coach during my year on JV. He was also my history teacher in JR High. I was good friends in high school with his son (jamie's younger brother). Didn't see Jamie much cause he had already moved out. Dale and his family are great. Always glad to see him at basketball games.

ya I had him as an 8th grade coach at the middle school and my brother had him as an 8th grade coach at Walnut Creek, I like seeing him at games too, I would guess he is enjoying retirement/traveling and watching alot of his sons games. I think Miami Trace was at the classic a time or 2. It was cool I think the Hiland kids sort of adopted the Miami Trace kids and they sat and cheered together during the Hiland game vs. Ft. Loramie (I think) back in the day.

Yeah, there has been a relationship there for quite a while. This past summer Punkin went to SportsCity in W Va for an "extreme camp". She met a girl from MT who when she found out Punkin played for Hiland she was like, "Oh I finally get to meet one of you guys. All my coach talks about is Hiland, Hiland, Hiland... you need to play like Hiland." Punkin said it was like the girl was almost star-struck. Sounds like he is putting a Perry/Dave type of program in place down there and look where they are. We'll be pulling for them along with Smithville and I hope McKinley does well too.

Is he the Stutzman that coached at Marietta 5-6 years ago? I did officiate some of his games and seemed to be a good coach there, but did not have any players. The father was a great coach and person at Hiland and I think should get some of the credit with Perry Reese.

Actually Hiland has 3 coaches down there this weekend. Bryce McKey '01? has been an assistant with Hathoway Brown for a number of years.

Yes that is him. He's been at Miami Trace 7 years and was at Marietta before that.
