Let's move on to the next game, Red Riders against the Ironmen, last year's DIII state champs. At 13-11 they still have Anton Grady, 6'8" jr and Chall Montgomery 6'3" sr back from that 24-3 team. Hopefully the supporting cast is not quite as good as last year's as 11 losses show they are beatable, but like in last night's district final we need all the supporting cast to contribute as it was a great TEAM effort last night.
Congrats Red Riders on this regional trip and just like the NCAA's is "just win and advance"!

Don't let the record fool you. Played a tough schedule. Beat by Villa twice, but won the third time. Be nice to go to Canton again.

I am not fooled by there record, also Iggy, Ed's and Benedictine in there also. I'm just saying they aren't quite as dominant as last year's team and appear to be beatable, but when you get to the SWEET 16, they are all tough games.

Anything from now on is icing on the cake, IMO.

We will be giving CCC one heck of a game, though.

CCC shedule was also affected when Grady was out with an injury, but he is back in full force now

Good. We wouldn't want to take them on short handed.

Grady and Montgomery each missed their share of games this year. Grady has only been back for 3 games. He's a game changer inside...big time shot blocker.

I'm guessing this is a team that will be more athletic than us...and that might not be so bad. I'm guessing we wont be seeing the 4-corners.

I agree with BRF...the stated goal was regionals, like it is every year. We have nothing to lose.

If we lose Wednesday, no one outside of Orrville will remember us.....but we win.....and no one will forget us.

That's how it was in the Genoa playoff game......our kids will have a chip on their shoulder and play all 32 minutes.

The last time we played CCC (cleveland) Sly was a senior. We played them at the fieldhouse in the same regional semi game. Marcell Denson hit the game winner with seconds left (his freshman year). Sly put the clamps on their point guard...Mr. Earl Boykins (current NBA) held him to single digit points and he was averaging around 25 per.

Nice recap there old rider. Great memories.

I think our kids have to go in with the attitude that we have to play our best and let it all hang out. I want to win. No thoughts of anything else.

Good luck Riders!

oldrider,
forgot all about that but you're 100% correct. Didn't Boykins almost hit a half courter? For some reason I remember that last shot being real close to going in.

Good to know there's a little history...maybe another historical video is in order this week for our kids?

And if they win, will act like they've never been there before. It was unreal last year, their celebration after beating Smithville, before even shaking hands.

That being said, they are a darn good team. Montgomery and Grady are tough! Last year Grady seemed to get rattled, so that's a possibility. Good luck, Orrville! Hopefully Hoobler can step it up again, and maybe Pirman will do something for the first time this tournament. Maybe he needs to grow his hair out and get his headband back. ;-) Just yoking. He's just had odd matchups against the DIII Wooster teams. Who knows. I'm sure he'll be ready.

Go Wayne County.

I believe that's called "actin a fool,".......

But before last year...they hadn't been there before. The Smithville game was the reg. final so it was for a trip to Columbus.....can't hardly blame kids......but i get ya....do all that after you shake hands.

RR1...I really can't recall a half court shot almost going in, but I'm sure if Boykins threw it up it was probably close to going in. He was a stud, but Sly played like a man on a mission and completely took him out of his comfort zone. I remember Smitty giving Sly the famous "I want you to step in his shorts and wear em all game long!" ...and we all know the results.

Marcell's shot to win was a runner in the lane. The daily record or maybe courier crescent (can't remember) had a frame by frame set of pictures of the game winner on the front of the sports page....maybe a good pic to look up for the blog RR1??

See all of you tomorrow and GO RED RIDERS!!

I feel good about this game. Class of 2010 is on a roll...since the horrendous start to the football season they right the ship and end up losing by a point in the regional finals.... we bring home 9 State Medals in boy's swimming and one mighty big STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in wrestling....let's keep it going tonight, Big crowd, Big game, Big Red Rider Victory!!
