As of cleveland.com Regina is disqualified for using an illegal player in last night's regional semi-final game. Elyria Catholic will take their spot in the regional finals against Smithville.

Go Smithies!

Shocked that Regina would do something to violate the rules.

I always like when they said they have not decided if they will appeal. What do you appeal you did not follow the rules and that is cut and dry. If you send in the paperwork like every other school that has had a transfer come into their school you are fine.

Still, Smithville gets to play the only team to beat the only team that beat Smithville (or something like that). Not exactly a gift!

Good luck, Smithville!

I don't think it is a gift at all? It's the right thing, they were breaking the rules. Should've happened last season too.

I'm reading between the lines where it said an anonymous packet was sent to the OHSAA detailing the violation. An inside whistleblower? Maybe but more likely a competitor who feels the way everyone on here feels toward the Regina coach. The sender of the packet appears to have waited a couple of games into the tourny so that the impact would be more devastating than if it was done during the regular season. Whoever it was wanted to have this hurt as much as possible - and it has.

In the Daily Record today it had Hiland's record as 24-1 as opposed to 23-2 which included a loss to Regina. Did Hiland pick up another win via forfeit or was it just an error?

They would have to get another win if that player has been ineligible for the whole season.

I noticed that, and just assumed they messed up. But you could be right--that may be legit already counting in Regina's forfeit

Pariah - I thought we'd gotten word last night that Hiland would get the win. Of course, we were a bit distracted. Should go as a 2-0 victory for the Hawks, right

Yeah, we were a little busy. I read all the way down in the DR article and it says Hiland picks up a forfeit win. The player was #31, Fields, who is from Canada. That girl scored 31 on us. Without her, no way Regina would have beat us. Still, I wish we would have beat them outright on the floor.

Well, that's poetic justice for sure. With the points she put up on us taken out of our game, your exactly right, we win that game. Of course Dunnigan would probably have been miraculously healthy then, so who knows. As much as I'm sure that Smithville was looking forward to another shot at them, too, if they get to Cbus, I doubt they'll care too much :)

I heard Coach Diulus is going to be coaching at a Div IV school next year. Anybody else heard anything? If it's already been talked about on here, sorry for not doing a little research first!

Yes, I've heard that story from a good source, and seen it in print too. I think the school was Lakewood Academy.
