I am an OSU alum and got engaged to a UM alum. Both of us our big football fans but she really wanted a wedding in the fall. We both went through each of our teams schedules to determine which games we care least about seeing (as well as our guests).

We both had Setpember 18 on our list because both schools play teams from the MAC that day. Plus, both games will likely be at noon and the wedding doesn't start till 4. Our guests won't miss a thing

I think you need to relax on the whole "no home game" thing. I would much rather get married on the day of a home game against a MAC team than a road game against a team like Miami.

What the heck is so special about football season as opposed to the 1st weekend of the NCAA basketball tournament? Or the 2nd weekend? Or Final 4 weekend? Or NFL playoff weekends? Or the weekends of the 4 golf majors? Or NASCAR whatever (not a fan so aside from Daytona I don't know what the big weekends are)? Or weekends in baseball/hockey/basketball playoffs?

Are people serious that they wouldn't go to a wedding because Ohio St. is playing Akron that weekend?

So schedule it for a day when you know the Bucks will play at noon, not that hard to figure out as it is always against weak competition and no one will be trying to follow a OSU game during the reception.

I would always go to a wedding that someone invited me to over watching an OSU game. I guess most people on here don't have DVR or even a VCR to tape the game and watch it when they get home.

However, I will never understadn people in Ohio or Michigan getting married on the day of The Game.

IMO College Football Saturdays are the best days of the year!! I love to make a bunch of food, get some beer, have friends over and yell and scream, cheer, be happy, be sad together with friends. Those are the days I look forward too. I remember growing up and watching the Buckeyes with my father and for many I am sure its the same. Many many people plan their college football Saturdays like this and they don't like them interupted, so what is the bid deal my friend?

If I pay for a service, and another service comes along that offers something better, why should I not change to the new service that has what I want? The Big10 network has been pretty successful, so it seems to me that lots of people wanted it. You might not see the value in it, but apparently there are enough people who do and isn't that what business is all about?

here's the deal.....I'm as big a buckeye fan as anyone you will ever meet and my fiance knows it. we have basically ruled out last weekend of August until after the first week of January. she went as far as to say the last Saturday in April is out as well due to the Spring Game most of the time. god love her

It still baffles me that people would plan a wedding around Ohio State Football.

Lol you're joking right? There are more weddings during summer than any other season. June, July and August are the top three months and pretty much always have been.

When we planned our wedding we knew we wanted to get married in the fall. One of the first things I took into consideration was when the OSU bye week was. We ended up having our wedding that day. I am an OSU alum and most of my friends are OSU alums as well.

To me, it's not that football is more important than the wedding...if my wife had insisted we have it on an OSU football saturday, I would have been OK with it. I just want to consider other people when planning an event of that magnitude. Most of my friends are OSU football nuts, but I'm sure they would have been at the wedding if it was on a football saturday.

If you can avoid a conflict that will take attention away from your big day, then why not do it? If there is no good reason to avoid the conflict other than just to be contrary, then you should go with the date that causes the least amount of conflict for the most people.

I never understood people who plan things on a big sports day. Why would you want to know that absolutely no one wants to be at your wedding but is only there b/c they have to????

Imagine looking out into the congregation as you're getting married and realizing that everyone there hates you......

Tell me how someones wedding (outside of immediate family) is important to me. Heck most of the time the groom doesn't even want to be there.

I don't like weddings either. I've never been to one and don't plane on it anytime soon, I just find it funny how much importance is put on a sporting event.

Her family couldn't care less about OSU and their football games. My family and friends are all OSU fans and there are a few that would probably have a problem with it. We have enough time to plan, but since she wanted the Miami game as of yesterday, it brought up an interesting conversation.

Good thing she agreed to eliminate that date, otherwise I would think she is being inconsiderate and controlling. Grounds for a breakup.
