I don't think the receiving corps was a problem last year. At least we can get some of those sweet gadget plays back now.

Not a problem, just won't be significantly better at this point at least, and other teams in the division have better and are improving.....

WRs will be a team strength. Holmes, Ward and Wallace is a hell of a trio and Randle El can still contribute. He's not the return specialist anymore but he still caught 50 passes each of the past three years.

The defense is very strong, other than the cornerback spot. They need to address that in the draft.

And one of their biggest weaknesses was kick coverage so they signed two good special teams players in Allen and Battle.

I'm not ready to make predictions for next year. Still plenty to sort out, but a productive day for the Steelers in free agency.

Post-Gazette link

Tyrone Carter won't be back and these moves likely mean the end of the Limas Sweed era.

I don't think they'll get Foote.

He's meeting with the Redskins where former Steelers assistant Lou Spanos is the linebackers coach and he's also meeting with Arizona later in the week.

Those places will likely give him the opportunity to start where as he'll be the 5th linebacker for the Steelers.

Yet somehow they were still good enough to beat your Vikings by double digits.

Now go home and get your fucking shine box.

Hard to find much info on Jonathan Scott.

He's 27.

6'6 318 from Texas.

Drafted in the 5th round in 2006 by Detroit.

Tall, long arms. Good footwork. Weakness is not always aggressive enough.

Started six games for the Lions in 2006-2007 and eight games for the Bills last year.

Lions and Bills. Poor guy!

I think so.

Steelers didn't have a #82.

There are some numbers the Steelers don't give out for the regular season, a lot of the Hall of Famers like #12, #32, #47, #52, #58, #59, #75.

They have continued to give out #82 and #88, although Stallworth and Swann just made the Hall recently so maybe they'll stop giving those out but I doubt it in this case since Randle El was already that number and had a significant impact.

You're so silly.

1. The receiving corps wasn't a problem last year. I'd take the trio of Ward, Holmes and Wallace over just about any group in the league. Adding a proven guy like Randle El to the mix just makes that group better.

2. If they got Clark back, that helps the secondary. CB is still a weakness, which needs to be addressed if they want to be a legit Super Bowl contender, but keeping quality players from their team should be a priority.

3. The main difference between them winning the division and finishing third last year was special teams (ie: kick/punt coverage). If they didn't give up what felt like a huge return on a game-by-game basis, they EASILY could have had 11 or 12 wins instead of 9. If they can shore up that weak link, they could be right back in the mix as far as contenders go.

So, sit back and watch as your boy Fav-Rae flip-flops on whether he's coming back or not 48 times between now and August.

This team isnt very far away from being very good. Take out your best defender......and one of the best in the league, especially in a defense like the steelers then you will always have trouble. TP means more to tha defense tha most safeties do to their teams.

With his quickness it allows them to do soo many things schemewise that they cannot do or get away with a replacement.

TP plays all 16 game healthy and very likely it is a 11-12 win team. They werent gettinb blown out.....a few very close losses where they couldnt seal the deal....

Losing McFaddy hurt I think. I really liked him and was solid in the secondary. Gay wasnt ready to take over FT.

Team should be running the ball a bit more, or at least, effectively next year. That is their goal. Yes..TOP was better this yer than last...but I think the late game collapses were hurt by not being able to milk the games away late like in the past. It isnt always how many yards you get in the rushing gambe but how effective you are when you do run it.

Still need a RB....theyll see if FWP getes any offers. I dont know if he will really. This is a passing league and he isnt one that isc atching passes out of the backfield or being split wide like many teams do now.

Good signings by Pittsburgh. Battle, Allen and El should boost the special teams alot, plus add depth to other positions. They didn't break the bank either.

He wasn't very dynamic as a return man in Washington the past few years but I suppose the Steelers can still use him on punt returns if Logan struggles.

Aaron Smith and Polamalu are two of the veteran cornerstones of the defense. They missed most of the year. If everyone is healthy the Steelers defense really is just one player short and that is at cornerback. Gay played decent as a nickel/dime player his first couple years but he got exploited last year as a starter. Burnett and Lewis might step up in year two, but it still looks like they need somebody that has a higher ceiling. That might be a Patrick Robinson, Donovan Warren or one of the other players in the draft.

I don't think they should re-sign Parker even if he doesn't get any offers. Mendenhall is fast despite his size so there isn't really a change-of-pace, they're both the same pace. The second guy needs to be a downhill runner. They still have that Isaac Redman guy. Anthony Dixon from Mississippi State would be nice if they could get him in the third round.

He is but the Steelers don't use him regularly. They did in the playoffs and he broke big returns against San Diego and Baltimore in 2008-2009.

Randle El is actually a good possession receiver, catching passes underneath or shovel passes and so forth. The Steelers used to flip it to him on short yardage plays out of the shotgun. I still think he can be used like that. Just an extra receiver.

Mike Wallace is a potential star so when everyone is healthy, the Steelers top four is looking good. But let's say Hines Ward, who is getting up there, limps off for a few plays. It's better to have Randle El than Sweed, Tyler Grisham, etc.

They only used holmes last year when they were pinned a bit deap because they trusted his hands more than Stephanie Logan.

Ya dont put your best WR back at return much in the NFL. Mabye early on in their career but not after a few seasons. They did it last year out of necessity and not really wanting too.

Def need to look out for someone to play for Ward. He plays tough..he plays hard....I could very easily see him all of a sudden hit the junk pile. He has just been that physical in his career
