If Chapman is truly the kind of player we think he can be and if Volquez comes back with a similar level of performance as in the past and if Baliey keeps improving and if Cueto comes out of his sophomore slump...talk about a stacked rotation. Oh yeah, forgot about the #1 and #2 pitchers, too.

That's still a lot of IF's.

That's what I was going to say haha... and I'm a Reds fan. I fully expect Cueto and the Harangatang to be back to their normal playing levels. Bailey, I'm not sure about. I think he'll good, but I just don't know. Volquez is almost a moot point, b/c he doesn't come back until mid-season, right? and once he comes back you know they will take it slow with him. Probably a wash of a season for him.

I'm a Reds fan also but still think there are A LOT of IF's with this team. The OF is going to be a VERY unproven OF. Bruce can't bat .210 or whatever he ended up with last year. I'm not worried about the infield at all, I think they have good pieces in place there.(Votto,Phillips,Cabrera,Rolen). I have never been sold on Hernadez behind the plate but with all the latino talent we are pulling, it may be smart at this point. Stubbs, Dickerson, Bruce and Gomes are going to be battling for starting spots but they really need to overachieve for this team to be in the playoff hunt.

Sure it's a lot of IFs, but isn't the same kind of IFs from the past like IF Mike Lincoln can morph into a legitimate starter and if Edwin Encarnacion learns the meaning of consistency and if Willy Taveras could actually learn how to hit. I guess the point that I was trying to make is that the Reds really only need a couple of these IFs, which are actually attainable, to pan out for them to have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball. I don't expect all of them to happen, but even if a couple do, then the Reds are in good shape.

That's awesome in my book.5 K's in 3IP is great. I know it's only spring but still nice numbers to put up.

the HR was to the leadoff batter also, so after that it was 3 hitless innings.

He even faced Braun and Hart. So it's not like it was all chumps he went up against.

Brewers Doug Davis on Chapman: 'He's going to be one of the greats if he stays healthy." Hart: "nothing was straight, everything moved"

Ok. I might have to change my initial thought that he "must" go to the minors. (Although I mainly said that it was pointless to anoint him after 1 start) But what he is doing is very impressive.

He will still go to the minors. Save money and keep him out of the cold for a month or two. I'd like to see him in Carolina for a few starts, then Louisville, then Cincy.

Why? If he can get the big boys out, what good is it for him to waste time in the minors?

I don't see a problem with him being in Louisville for the a few weeks or the first month to see how does in AAA. He see how he does in a full 6-7+ innings of work compared to 2-4innings in spring training. How he can do in some situations. After that we will have a better idea of when he's ready to come up to the big club.

His arm will fall off with Dusty Baker at the helm.

It was brought up in the Dayton Daily, with a wrtier from the Enquire since they pushed Hal out last year, that there is speculation by some he will start in the minors because of the whole arbitration clock on his contract.

Of course the GM said that is fubar. Well..didnt say it that way but still..

Impressive so far. He was wild in the WBC. Through his terp he stated that in cuba in the WBC he didnt have film study so he didnt get to see his motion. He noticed some mechanical issues and corrected them and that helped his control.

Normally, I would agree with that statement, but if Chapman can handle the torturous regimen that the Cubans put their pitchers through, I'm sure he can survive Baker's stupidity.

he didnt throw that many innings last year. ALso, ive read they throw every 6 days in cuba.
what ive been reading from the beat writers is that the team is concerend aobut the workload of an entire eason. You can controal that more f you start in the minors
