Like others have said the areas surrounding UC get a bad rap that is largely undeserved. It is a large campus in a highly populated area and incidents do happen to UC students off campus. But the rate of incidents is no greater than it is for anyone else living in the area. I have lived two blocks off campus for the past 3 years and have never been approached, attacked, mugged or anything else in that time. The worst thing that has happened to me or my possessions is that my car was keyed.

As for the actual campus it really is a thing a beauty. It is pretty obvious when you take a couple of steps onto campus that UC has one of the best architechture schools in the country. CRC, Steager Student Life Center, The Lindner Center and Main Street have all been featured in various architectural journals in recent years. UC has reworked east campus as well hiring some of the best architects in the world including Frank Gehry who designed the Vontz Center. This is the view from my apartment.

Yeah I am a bit biased but UC's campus is fantastic.

The hills can be problematic, no disputing that. But by the end of their Freshman year most people figure out the easiest ways to get around while avoiding excessive elevation changes

My oldest son attended Cincinnati a number of years ago and I didn't really give this much thought, as my son lived just off campus in one of those three story straight up in the air "townhouses" in a not very nice part of town. i always thought the campus itself was fairly attractive but I would imagine that in the intervening years, Cincinnati's campus has been upgraded as to the esthetic attraction of the campus. The only thing I vivdly remember was that the elevators in Calhoun worked once or twice a week and I was always grateful that I was running regularly back in those days and the climb didn't bother me. Today, they would have to have the EMS there before I even started to walk up those stairs.

Colgate University, listed at the top of Princeton Review is actually built on the side of the hill with the quad at the top. Panoramic views can be seen from almost every spot on campus. Upstate New York is very beautiful area,... and with all respect and love to my home state of Ohio, we got nothing to beat them.
Perhaps the makers of this list should break it down into city?suburban and rural. Cinci may be a great cityscape, buit concrete and steel are no match for trees, lakes and hills.

I have pretty much that same view but from the other side of Childrens. Yours is definitely better with the architecture building though. I was going to go to UC and major in that but changed my mind. Awesome building.

The ara surrounding UC's campus gets an unfair rap. From my experience over the years the people who give it the the hardest times are people who have been isolated in rural areas and very nice suburbs most of their lives. They assume the worst of the people who live near campus because they are a little rough around the edges and the neighborhoods are very old. Was there crime on and around campus during my time there? Sure. However, I also know that friends of mine at Ohio and Miami U. delt with almst all the same issues--- in fact, a lot of times it was worse at those places than at UC.

I haven't been on campus since a visit back in 2000 or so. Now that my wife works on campus and just finished her first week we were planning on walking around campus today so she could show me around. Unfortunately the weather is shit around here today.

They said campus not 1 block off campus...but I do agree off campus can be very dangerous for someone walking alone.

Not really. Not if you pay attention to your surroundings.
