Wow. Wow.
'listened to the Longsinger broadcast. Hiland trailed the whole game. They had at least a dozen chances to tie or go ahead, but could never get the key shot to drop. Got ball possession trailing 44-41 with 5 sec and the length of the court to go. Got the ball to Weaver who hustled up the court and got the ball to Yoder coming off of a Stuckey screen. The three point shot hit net as the buzzer sounded.
In OT, Hiland got a Hilary Weaver steal a few seconds after the tip-off, scored quickly, and led the rest of the way.
Hiland had Walker on the bench a good part of the game with foul trouble, but it didn't seem to make much difference. Hiland trailed anywhere from one to nine or ten points the whole game.
They executed perfectly at the end, but any way you look at it, it took some good luck. I wonder if Lutheran East should have fouled someone to prevent a three point shot? I don't know; that stops the clock, and if they make the first free throw, something might happen on a rebound if you get a good bounce.

In post-game comments, coach Schlabach said the Noelle won three games over the summer with buzzer shots.bluishgreen wrote: it ended up by dave drawing up an unstoppable play and the hawks executing it to perfection and noelle droppin the biggest 3 of her life...unbelieveable!!!

Here are the quarter scores, courtesy of the Cleveland Plain dealer:
. Final 1st 2nd 3rd 4th OT1 T
Lutheran East 13 10 14 7 8 52
Berlin Hiland 12 7 17 8 13 57

Hilary made a bunch of free throws in OT. I think maybe 7/8, or even 9/10. I know she only missed one.

id say the degree of difficulty of that play was phenominal...let me replay it more indepth just the way i seen it so it will do the girls more justice...
first of all dave had to sacrifice a player just to set a screen on the baseline to get jessica in a position to even get a decent pass off, secondly she made a great half court pass that just made it over the defenders hand, and hilary made one heck of a catch pretty much over the shoulder so that she was facing up court...then stuckey set that screen going away from the ball and hilary hit noelle with a 30 foot CROSSCOURT pass, noelle was wide open and hit nothing but nylon from id say 2-3 feet behind the line right in front of the hawk bench. absolutely masterful on all accounts, great play call and all five girls executed pefectly...im still kinda of in shock...

I only saw half of the full court play as my wife and I were at the end zone doors ready to make a quick getaway. Needless to say we found our way back to our seats for OT. I was impressed with LE. They played a tough game and it was not until the OT that they got out of sync.

Oh my gosh. So much to say. Thanks to ProfM who did a great recap of the game.
Bgreen's description of "the play" was perfect. We had a similar angle.
Yeah, we saw that play several times this past summer with the exact same results. In Ky we are playing this awesome aau team - I think it was Tennessee Nike Select Blue - and it was a similar type of game: behind the whole way but close and I think we are down two with time running out. Ran the same play except it was inbounded from the side on the Hiland end of the court. That time Jess Stutz set an unbelievable screen and Noelle hit the shot at the buzzer from pretty much the same spot she did last night. The play worked the same way to win another game down there.
Afterward Noelle told me that I get the credit for her hitting the shot. She's standing there close to the stands and she heard me yell, "Get us into OT, Noelle." She said that she thought, "That's exactly what I am going to do." So, I saved the season. OK, well, we'll give the players and Coach some credit too.
Man, when that shot went in... haven't heard our crowd let out a roar like that since Gause's shot. It was awesome and yes, the party went late.
Hannah Stoneman played HUGE last night. Easily the best game of her short career. She battled defensively, rebounded the heck out of the ball and scored 5 big points against some really good posts. So proud of her.
I've never seen so much hugging going on. The bad thing is we were all soaked with sweat and we smelled a little gamey! Especially tfangel. Just kidding!

LE was everything we thought they would be athletically. More importantly, they kept their composure, and really outplayed us until OT. I was impressed with their passing.
Our depth was a key. They were spent physically and mentally going into OT.
Nothing but praise for the LE players. Their coach on the other hand is still a buffoon. He's inches to feet onto the court while play is going on, hopping and scooting around. I don't know how he kept getting away with that. Some player could have stepped on his foot and sprained an ankle. At halftime both teams were running into the locker room - this guy screens our girls off and says "My girls first". The guy shoved one of his players to the bench that he was frustrated with. And I guess as our coaching staff was leaving a game they scouted last week some LE dads stopped them and told them that Hiland had "no chance" against LE. So, it adds a little extra pleasure to last night's win.

just an awesome game last night, thanks pariah for telling Noel what to do! I too thought Hannah's play was key she really battled down low. great recap and pictures on Mark Longsingers the voice. some of the pics really pic up the emotions of the game. and of course Marks recap of "the shot" is awesome.
there have been many great games at Hiland over the years and this one will be in the discussion as one of the best ever!
what a great group of seniors on this team, leadership out the wazoo.

Don't want to beat a dead horse but what was Coach Burke doing not fouling in that situation? You foul, even if it is off the ball with no time elapsing, and then you force a FT make, a miss with an offensive rebound and a bucket. The odds of that scenario working are way less than the odds of Noelle nailing a 3. Just lunacy. The guy has very talented players, but he doesn't add anything to them with his coaching decisions. Good thing or Hiland would be out this morning!
Coach Schlabach is usually a totally cool cucumber. When players make a big play, he typically looks like he totally expected it. When Noelle hit that shot, he was literally on the floor celebrating! That gives some indication as to how important that shot was to him.

I agree about fouling because so much has to go right for them to tie the game. But it is amazing how many coaches do not believe in that philosophy and not just on the high school level.

Listened to the end of the game and have to agree LE coaching was terrible at the end. You either foul or at least don't let Yoder open, either a double team or agressive switch on the screen.

pariah i can attest to that...as god as my witness when you yelled at noelle i seen her eyes come our way and she shook her head as if to say 'you know it man'...
and another thing i questioned from the LE coach...down three with 38 seconds left and he has his best 3 point shooter fouling, and she fouls out...obviously you have to foul but when your within striking distance you have to keep your pure 3 point shooter on the floor. taking the extra few seconds to get someone else to foul at that point would have been well worth it. not to mention they absolutely took their sweet time the whole overtime when they were losing the whole time, especially inside a minute...
and to add on to the coaches antics...everytime they made a good play in the first half he would literally turn to dave, walk towards him and fistpump...it seemed to me like his eyes were locked on dave and he was directly addressing him...

That fist-pumping stuff is ridiculous. The guy is classless. Why would a bunch of Lutherans tolerate that?
