And two other factors for tonight's game: Students were not in school today and a sad thing happened (which will give our boys impetus)
Go Riders!.

Defense won this game...no doubt!! I know jacob and joey hit those 3's in the 4th but the defense was smothering in the 2nd half. Coach Slaughter was all over the boy's to get after them defensivley!! Love it!! Shot's were'nt falling in first 3 quarter's....so what??? You use your D to make your offense go!! Hoobler was huge off the bench and pirman played alot better in 2nd half. On a side note....I thought you guy's said hillsdale was a bad free throw shooting team???!!!

sman, pretty good roundup. Hoober was HUGE off the bench for a little while there, getting some key buckets when nothing else seemed to work and while Wasson was on the bench with 2 fouls in the first half (both of which were bogus, IMO). Pirman was a complete non-factor the whole game, IMO, not just in the 1st half. Orrville outscored Hillsdale 33-14 in the 2nd half. Wow! My site is updated:

And that's what happened. Didn't expect him to score at the right times like he did.Flash wrote: Don't forget Hoobler. He should help on Cline. He only has a week of practice under his belt and conditioning may be an issue, but he won't get pushed around.

Yes, Yes, Yes!!!! My point form very early on this year.....you can still play lights out D no matter whats going on with your offense.sman wrote: Defense won this game...no doubt!! How many times have we heard (in the past)..."we lost cuz shots werent falling, coach cant make shots for them"
well, tonight they werent falling, but it didn't become a cop-out. Shot 35% in the first half with our #2 player on the bench and only trailed by 6. Hillsdale was getting all the breaks and hitting shots but the game was never close to being out of reach.
But what did we do? Outscore them 33-14 in the 2nd half and pull away with the deadly shooting of Mr. Bolyard and Joey.
I did some math....we have outscored our 2 tourney opponents by a combined score of 69-30!!! That's dominance....and attributable to coaching.
Congrats Sly, staff and team...now go get a district title!!!

Pitman...i was referring to pirman's effort on defense in 2nd half. Thought he picked it up.

Orrville shot 29.7% in the 1st half
Hillsdale shot 50.0% in the 1st half.

Hillsdale shot 21.7% in the 2nd half.
Orrville shot 36.5% for the game.

Those are not good numbers for either team.
Bolyard - 26 pts (9/22 FG including 4/10 3's, 4/4 FT), 5 reb, 3 ast, 3 stl
Wasson - 13 pts (5/11 FG, 3/9 FT), 13 reb
Crossen, Moore, and Cline (Hillsdale's "bigs") combined for 20 pts.

^^Wow. All 3 of their bigs were very impressive, but against a fairly small Northwestern team. I guess our schedule paid off tonight. Probably nothing we didn't see several times in the OCC.
Pirman, Hoobs and Wasson eat up plenty of space.

Someone correct me if I"m wrong, but I don't think Wasson ever left the game after coming back in with 3:32 in the 2nd quarter (after leaving the game with 4:41 in the 1st). I'm pretty sure when Wasson left the game with 4:41 in the 1st with 2 fouls, the game was tied 6-6. Wasson entered the game with 3:32 left in the 2nd quarter. The game was tied 21-21. Then I think he played the entire rest of the game.

I believe he sat back down with 1 to 1 1/2 minutes left in the half.thePITman wrote: Someone correct me if I"m wrong, but I don't think Wasson ever left the game after coming back in with 3:32 in the 2nd quarter (after leaving the game with 4:41 in the 1st). You are correct. I just checked, and he left with 1:19 in the 2nd quarter. Thanks for the correction. He did start and play the whole 2nd half.riders1 wrote:I believe he sat back down with 1 to 1 1/2 minutes left in the half.thePITman wrote: Someone correct me if I"m wrong, but I don't think Wasson ever left the game after coming back in with 3:32 in the 2nd quarter (after leaving the game with 4:41 in the 1st). Also someone should tell WQKT that #20 is Drew Brenner NOT... Jordan Ray. They have been going with the roster book and not checking with the scorers or coaches to get an updated roster .... to lazy of Myers and Breckinridge to come down to the floor or just to the concessionsriders1 wrote:I believe he sat back down with 1 to 1 1/2 minutes left in the half.thePITman wrote: Someone correct me if I"m wrong, but I don't think Wasson ever left the game after coming back in with 3:32 in the 2nd quarter (after leaving the game with 4:41 in the 1st). Have you ever made the trek up to where they do their announcing at Wooster HS? It's not exactly close to... ANYTHING! How's this - for the district final, I'll give them the roster I use. lolriders1 wrote:Also someone should tell WQKT that #20 is Drew Brenner NOT... Jordan Ray.
